A doctor is trained to hand out pills. The whole Big Pharma has our healthcare by the short and curlys. I was prescribed Percocet for a shoulder. It made me very depressed and I had thoughts that I would never get better.

My husband, at now 71 yo, would never even take an aspirin his whole life. He now has stage 4 lung cancer (he already, years ago, had a part of one lung removed due to exposure to Agent Orange-two terms in Vietnam), has lost his right eye to nasal cell cancer, has torn rotor cuffs in both shoulders, carpal tunnel and cubic tunnel in both arms and hands, neuropathy in both legs/feet, and other various and sundry health problems. If ever a man should have been a likely and safe candidate for opioid medicines, it would have been him-he’s dying- added to all that, many side effects from chemo and radiation at the highest levels trying to fight the cancer-when he was diagnosed, they gave him app 11months-he told them to give him the strongest treatment they could, and had chemo and radiation at the same time. Then he went to immuno therapy, now he’s had to stop that. The tumor in his lung is still growing, he has scar tissue in his throat from the radiation which prevents the espohghugal flap from completely closing which makes him feel like he might choke whenever he eats. He’s lost over a hundred lbs-he was a big man, in a solid, Paul Bunyan way, legs like tree trunks-now he’s a shadow of his former self, someone has to walk with him anytime he walks because he falls easily, and his skin has become like paper and tears if you so much as look at it.

All this, and he still has a problem getting any opioid medicine which would help his chronic and strong pain-this, a man who would never take an aspirin.

I’m at the point to where I don’t give a damn about the junkies who do it for fun-give them all they want, if that’s what it takes for my husband to get the medicine he NEEDS, and currently has to jump through dozens of hoops to get, just when he’s always to tired and in too much pain to bother. So he just hurts. I suppose I’m angry enough for both of us. To see a man who never asked for anything, never took anything, have to be treated like a criminal because he’s dying-the only reason I don’t go off on his DRs is because one, I know the buck doesn’t stop with them, it stops with some do-gooder bureaucrats miles away-and two, getting mad at them would not improve their willingness to help.
