White House will back down on demand for border wall funding to avert government shutdown

The White House wants to avoid a partial government shutdown and has found other ways to get the border wall President Trump is demanding, spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said Tuesday.

Sanders’ comments come four days before large portions of the federal government will begin shutting down unless Congress and Trump act first.

Trump has been demanding $5 billion from Congress for his border wall, which Democrats refuse to give.

But Sanders told Fox News Channel: “We have other ways that we can get to that $5 billion.”

“At the end of the day we don’t want to shut down the government, we want to shut down the border,” Sanders said.

Sanders said the White House was exploring other funding sources and believed it could be legally done.

“We have other ways that we can get to that $5 billion.”

“What a let down if true.”

IOW: I read the title, not the article.

The wall was not built during the two years the GOP had control of both the House and the Senate. If it wasn’t built then, why should we hope that it will be built now?

“Per Sanders comments on Fox... White House appears to support Chuck Schumer’s initial offer — the Senate’s bipartisan appropriations bill from June, which includes in $1.6 billion in “fencing”/wall money.”

Trump can’t afford to back down on this. If he does, the Rats will have him over a barrel for the next two years.

Trump has something up his sleeve.... I hope.

We were hoping the FISA docs would be released too. The “immedidate declassification” order was three months ago. Just saying.

No wall funding? How about a deep trench instead, like a moat filled with acid.

I totally despise bastards like Piglosi and Schmucky Shoomer. There never would have been a United States if the country had been filled with freeloading, commie bastards like them back in the 1700s.

Democrats don’t want a skin on America.

It’s been suggested to start a GoFundMe for the wall. If every Trump supporter contributed 50 bucks, that would be a good start.

I don’t doubt other ways can be found to fund the wall.
Trump could start a private foundation, and the Democrats would be STUNNED to see how much Americans would contribute to that.

But dammit, somebody needs to shut-down the government sooner or later. We’re $21 trillion in the hole.

Um, the last I checked, the Republicans still own the House.

What’s the problem?

> I do not trust the military to carry out orders to fortify the border. <

I caught a brief news report on TV yesterday that said that the number of troops on the southern border was being reduced. If this is some kind of 4-D chess, I freely admit that I can't follow it.

The solution is simple. TAX the welfare and all other benefits received by the illegal aliens. We can come up with the money needed in no time.

Very true. Presidentail credibility is the underpinning of presidential power. A president has to say what he means and mean what he says.

Yes. Plays perfectly. No shut down forces them to stop it. GOP doesn’t even have to vote on it.

Cancel one of the submarines to pay for it.
