White House will back down on demand for border wall funding to avert government shutdown

The White House wants to avoid a partial government shutdown and has found other ways to get the border wall President Trump is demanding, spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said Tuesday.

Sanders’ comments come four days before large portions of the federal government will begin shutting down unless Congress and Trump act first.

Trump has been demanding $5 billion from Congress for his border wall, which Democrats refuse to give.

But Sanders told Fox News Channel: “We have other ways that we can get to that $5 billion.”

“At the end of the day we don’t want to shut down the government, we want to shut down the border,” Sanders said.

Sanders said the White House was exploring other funding sources and believed it could be legally done.

All he has to do to get re-elected is put the Clintons & Co. where they belong.

The only silver lining is that the economy will collapse on their watch. The great foundering and deconstruction will be at the hands of the liberals. But the country is so far gone that who knows if there will be any political consequences?

That IN ITSELF is a problem. The GOP congress is a total farce.

Yes it is. And POTUS is completely unwilling to engage them. I really don’t understand why. He’s got nothing to lose at this point. He needs to call McCarthy and McConnell into the White House and beat them to a pulp on live TV. Like he did to Nazi and Chucky. They have failed us and GOP base needs some leadership from POTUS. We can’t fight his battles for him.

This will do wonders to his credibility after that very public and forceful promise to shut down the government if he didn’t get the money.

Pelosi and Schumer must be yukking it up right about now.

Trump will never ever get the border wall funding. Maybe he has realized it finally. Just take the money from the DOD and let the corps of engineers start building the wall.

Ha ha—the WaPo has changed from their original headline on this, which said the admin (Sanders) said they would go ahead with funding it by other means (the already approved military budget).

Rod Rosenstein is still in his job. Think about that for moment. The president couldn’t or wouldn’t get rid of someone who defied the congress, committed numerous illegal acts, and even conspired to secretly record the president himself!

If anyone ever deserved to be fired it was him. Yet he’s still comfortably ensconed in his position as Deputy AG.

This is a message to all of us who is really in control.

If true, this is how Donald J. Trump loses his base.

Yeah, he knows.

Dunno. Perhaps the WH was “promised” a $5B reauthorization if they could avoid the shutdown. The reauthorization won’t happen. Will most likely go the “declare a national emergency” route and divert the $s from the DOD.

The report I heard this morning from a local radio host who knows Trump personally is that the Trump team decided that the optics of him spending Christmas at Mar-A-Lago while his Secret Service detail was working on “suspended pay” duty would have been a disaster.

Federal Govt “shutdowns” cost money, they don’t save it.

In Trump’s defense, let’s be honest here. A Wisconsin voter (just to use an example) who votes for Donald Trump for President but then sends an @sshole like Paul Ryan to represent him in Congress is so disoriented politically that it’s impossible to get anything of substance done.
