Trump administration officially bans bump stocks

The Trump administration is officially banning bump-fire stocks, senior Justice Department officials told CNN Tuesday.

Under a new federal rule, those who possess the devices, commonly known as bump stocks, will get 90 days to turn them in from the date that the final rule is published in the federal register, which is likely Friday, the officials said.

Bump stocks gained national attention last year after a gunman in Las Vegas rigged his weapons with the devices to fire on concertgoers, killing 58 people. President Donald Trump vowed to outlaw the devices soon after the tragedy, and some lawmakers on Capitol Hill urged him to back a permanent legislative fix.

But opposition from lawmakers and the National Rifle Association ultimately made a regulatory change the only realistic path forward to accomplishing the President's goal.

Nothing in the 2nd Amendment about bump stocks & I THOUGHT it was still the law of the land. Seems like all this is to create a country of outlaws where there were few before. What happened to the notion of bringing the law down on someone AFTER an actual crime was committed?

....Who even wants a bumpstock? Nobody. ......

So you purport to speak for all legitimate gun owners in America then? Sorry but you only represent your own ignorant self!!!

At the time, I thought it sounded just like an M-60.

That ban should take car of the few dozen or so potential shooters who have a missing trigger finger or a fully joint locked trigger finger.

What about the crank fire device, is it also banned?

This is no big deal

It alienates supporters, and gains Trump absolutely nothing in return from the Leftist opponents. And of course it is yet another chipping away at the second amendment.

This is a bad deal.

The same could be said for you. Most people don’t want one.

Practically no one will turn them in.

Because nobody has them......

It was a device that no one I know ever used or heard of until Vegas. I never heard of it pre Vegas.

Not the hill to die on

Bill of Rights, not Bill of Wants, as if you could possibly speak for the millions of law-abiding Americans who may choose to own what was until today a legal item...How many are now on the cusp of felony because Trump went ahead and unilaterally did something not even Obama did?

And yet on this thread I see quite a bit of rallying around and minimal using. If Obama has done the exact same thing these same people would be crapping their livers out on the floor in rage.

We’ve still got the entire deep state dictatorship in place in “our” government - there’s been almost zero Swamp Draining — almost none. And he’s got time to screw around with unconstitutional illegal ineffective worthless blullsbeit jokes like demanding citizens give away their private property under threat of ? I don’t care about bump stocks but I do care about repairing our third- rate dictatorship country - starting with restoring our constitutional rights — which can only begin if PDJT remembers to drain the swamp. So far? Nada nil zilch.

I see your point. But those who want them can still get them and even make their own.

I guess this part of living with the fact that Trump is kinda Conservative but not really.
He’s still way better than anyone else I could have voted for.

I hope he doesn’t think for a minute this will score him any points with the Left whatsoever.
All he’s done is piss off some Conservatives.
Meanwhile, the Media will continue to scream “F- Trump!” just as loudly as always.

I’m usually disparaging about mass shooting conspiracy theories but everything about that Vegas incident and the way it was presented to the public was just off. We were not told everything.

He’s doing something so illegal even the Obama Administration refrained from doing it. That’s not nothing.

Bingo.

You have to think it out, if it is illegal, the courts will overturn it. Maybe that is the plan anyways.

“This comes straight from the top. This is happening because the President insisted. Don’t let Trump off the hook.”

You are probably right but Sessions set it in motion at Trump’s behest. For once the jarf finally followed orders. Surprised he didn’t recuse himself.

2. Well, as long as it's the only way the President can get his way, it's ok if he ignores the law and the Constitution. We don't need that silly Congress to make laws, after all, when the President has a pen and a phone. This is some Obama-esque thinking.

Following right along in Obamas footsteps. Obama is probably smiling about how Trump is following along in his footsteps with creating new laws and ignoring the role Congress is supposed to play in the process and using the power of the Presidential EO to create new laws instead. That's kind of what wannabe dictator styled Presidents like to do it isn't it?

So much for Trump wanting to restore the rule of law and the Constitution and faith in government in America. Turns out to be just so much typical hot air campaign rhetoric when the dust settles.

“Much ado about nothing. Who even wants a bumpstock? Nobody. This is Trump doing the least thing possible to stop the gun control crowd.”

Yep, this’ll stop them. The liberal fight to ban guns is over! Thank God we’ll never have to have this fight again.

It’s official - he’s done more for gun control than Obama did.

Bump stocks make a rifle un-handlable and I think they are more dangerous than anything.

Like saying that pistolized-rifles (Such as an AR15 pistol) is somehow better without a stock. Without the stock it just becomes dangerous and unwieldy.

Note: I have a bump stock and an AR15 pistol and I love them.

The court picks haven’t done much in the way of our natural rights to be armed, and our un-natural tolerance of living under a government who loves to manage what we do.

I’m not a “Done with Trumper” but I do have to point out the elephant in the room : The man isn’t anywhere near as pro-gun as he sold himself to be. He’s not particularly dangerous to our rights, but he has - at this point this is true - Done more to further gun control than Obama did.
