Supporters of US President Donald Trump have turned on him after he was yet again denied funding for a border wall.
Late on Wednesday, the US Congress approved a spending bill to keep federal agencies funded until February.
The Republican president was foiled in the Senate by members of his party, who refused to grant him any of the $5bn (£4bn) he wants for a US-Mexico wall.
Two years on, Mr Trump has been unable to deliver on the central campaign pledge that electrified his rallies.
Congress faces a Friday midnight deadline for averting a partial shutdown of the federal government.
Failing to agree a longer-term spending plan, the Senate has only been able to approve a seven-week extension of funds.
The House of Representatives is expected to act on the legislation later this week.
President Trump was quick to voice his displeasure, saying on Twitter on Thursday that he would not sign any legislation that does not include the wall.
But he has repeatedly threatened to veto budget bills that do not include funding for his project, only to sign such measures once they reach his desk.

Your optimism is outstanding. Do you believe the world is going to end tomorrow too?
Sage advice. Trump is a speed bump to a borderless America. He needs our support, but that said, prepare for when he leaves. I see a real mess ahead.
So far I've been 100% right. How about you?
We need to replace more establishment republicans, i understands that. Trump has allowed the Mitches and the Paul Ryans to expose themselves with their losership.
The Statue of Liberty was meant to symbolize freedom. Are those hordes of people from extremely corrupt countries coming for freedom or money? Will they make the USA more free, or will they continue to take control of more business and government to insist that we submit to their cultures? What about the State that the Statue is in? Does that State stand for American freedom or for foreign tyranny? How about those who fund the huge migrations? Do they stand for freedom, or do they want to finish their enslavement of the American people? And what about the so-called free trade enforced by the people of the Democrat states like New York? Have they been making us more free?
And a legend in your own mind too I see. How fortunate for you.
I wouldn't blame him one bit if he chose not to run again. He had no support from the Republican Congress on immigration, or Obamacare. Even if the Republicans did take back the House and retain the Senate in 2020, there's no guarantee that Congress wouldn't be as weak-kneed as this one was. Couple that with the constant harassment and lies from the media, the continual battle with the courts trying to implement his immigration policy, the perpetual threat of impeachment, and investigations of him and his family. What other President has had to put up with all of that in just the first two years of their Administration? Lincoln had the Civil War. This is Civil War II.
I’m in the blue State of New York, but I haven’t faltered on President Trump. Less than two years in office, and the chronic malcontents are crying.
Seems like its come to a stop, Im sure plenty of people will unless he figured out how to get it moving again. None of us voted for him so he could let Pelosi and Schumer set the agenda.
The left WILL support and fully fund the wall sooner or later.
They are just waiting until America becomes 100% Dem, like California. Then, they will quickly fund and build the wall to prevent any of the slave labor—the sources of tax revenue—from escaping.
From a fool, that’s a complement.
You mean compliment right? You’re entirely welcome for the spelling correction.
I agree he needs to find a way to get it done. But how he gets it done is not that important. I’ll leave it to him to take care of the details. Whether it’s funded through this bill or through the military budget is all the same to me.
