Trump's frontrunners for Pentagon job likely to share Mattis' views on Syria, Afghanistan

...Gen. Jack Keane and Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., are considered the frontrunners to replace Mattis...For Trump to nominate Keane, however, he would have to swallow Keane’s hawkish stance...and his recent criticism of the move to pull out of Syria, which the retired general called a “huge strategic mistake." “Clearly, we're repeating the Obama mistake of premature withdrawal, which got us ISIS,” Keane said on Fox News’ “America's Newsroom” on Thursday. “In my judgment, we need to stick to it and finish the job,” Keane added, noting that the withdrawal of American troops will give “a victory of strategic proportions” to the Iranian regime.

It is just a fact that after 8 years of The Clown EVERY officer with a star on his shoulder boards was libtard approved. A handful had spoken out (like Flynn) so Trump picked them. Now, 2 years in, there are general and flag officers whom Trump has promoted and so there is now a crop that can be promoted over the 0bama generals. So, naturally, these 0bama generals and admirals are still there but being replace and now they have a natural alliance with the Deep State.

You are not going to win anything with 2000 troops in a country filled with the Syrian Army, the Russians, the Iranians, the Kurds, the Turks, Syrian Rebels and A few Al Queda and Isis scattered around. Better to use Pin Point Air Strikes when warranted.

Two months ago, I read a piece....they’d added everything up since 9-11....one trillion dollars spent on Afghanistan. What do you have to show for it? Pretty much nothing.

If you take the pro-Afghanistan logic....you could stay another 20 years and spend another trillion. Makes no sense.

Last week, I read a Turkish news piece talking about a town in Afghanistan (40 miles from the Iran border). 50,000 residents, and journalists say that 80-percent-plus of the resident are engaged in the meth-manufacture/trade....into Iran. Tons of the stuff made monthly and smuggled into Iran. I’d suggest to leave....let the trade continue, and bring down both governments in the next decade.

Actually, I think he should pick one of the freepers on here that are all for pulling our troops out of Syria and Afghanistan. These ‘experts’ (most of whom have probably never stepped foot in the Middle East) should be able to do that job quite well.

People need to wake up and smell the coffee!! Yes, I like President Donald J. Trump. That does not mean that I will slavishly follow him over the cliff. On these foreign policy decisions he is dead wrong!! On this issue he is out of his league and needs to listen to his advisers.

On a side note, I had to crack up watching Nazi and Chucky almost well up in tears talking about the departure of Gen Mattis. I guarantee these two probably can’t stand him but will take any moment to preen for the camera how Trump is ruining this country. Gen Mattis will be a big loss and will be missed, however no one is irreplaceable. There are a number of good candidates to get however they will all counsel him that this is a bad move playing into Russia and Turkey’s hands. He needs to pick a good Defense Secretary and quietly pull back on doing this. President Trump is not making any friends in the military by doing this. The military wants to complete the job, not pull out knowing they will be causing a new mess for future soldiers/sailors/airmen/marines.

Keane only does war except for being a strategic adviser and lobbyist for defense contractors.

He would refuse to work with a president who gives Iran space to expand and build up anyway, so it doesn’t matter. Cotton would refuse, too. And so would any high ranking officer who is honest.

Liberaltarians who push against defense make a lot of noise, but there aren’t many of them in the USA as compared to Americans.

The military wants to complete the job

Define the "job". Define what makes it "complete".

Getting out of Syria makes complete sense politically. All the talking heads are saying how the military leaders are saying it is a mistake to leave. The move into Syria by Obama was never approved by congress.....make the libtards vote for it now. Approve the funding, go ahead Nancy and Chuck. Trump can also redeploy the dollars to our southern boarder where there is a real threat to our security. Trump completely supports Israel.......who is probably in the best position to manage things going forward.

Trump said he was going to get us out of these entanglements. He kicked the hell out of ISIS, now it is time to bring our troops home. The military should be wiping out bad guys. That job is done.

Keane is a globalist military-industrial hack.. I heard him repeat the lie that the military can’t patrol/enforce our borders. He pushes the Posse Comitatus lie. What a loser/liar! Keane = Mattis II

No one can finish the job in Afghanistan. The British were fighting the Afghans during Victoria’s reign all the way through WWII. We need to leave and let the Afghans have their stone age country back. Some say that the Chinese will move in to fill the void if we do. Let them. The Afghans will destroy them the using the same processes they did with the Brits, the Russians, and us. Leave them to their own “lights.”

“Those 2,000 troops need to be on the US-Mexico border.”

During the campaign Trump said he disagreed with the war in Iraq. It is time to get the hell out of Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria. We’ve lost thousands of troops fighting in these shitholes. The number of amputees and PTSD injured is staggering. What did we accomplish? Time to stop being the policemen of the world. Bring them home and secure our borders.

Open boarders globalist has about as much leverage on the issue as a 7th grader deciding who to vote for in the next election which is absolutely none
