Hundreds of immigrant families arrive at remote border crossings, overwhelming U.S. agents

ANTELOPE WELLS BORDER STATION, N.M —The U.S.-Mexico border here is an imaginary line in a wilderness of mountains, wind and sand. It’s 45 miles to the nearest town, Hachita, N.M., population 49.

This is where 7-year-old Jakelin Caal and her father, Nery, arrived on the night of Dec. 6 with 161 others who walked around U.S. border gates and surrendered to agents. Twenty-seven hours later, the child was dead. Questions about how and why Caal died have fixed on the care she received in U.S. Border Patrol custody, and whether U.S. agents, or her father, deserve blame. The Department of Homeland Security has opened an internal investigation. Democratic lawmakers are threatening an inquiry of their own.

Lost in the diverging accounts of what happened — whether she had water, or proper medical care — is a fundamental question about changing patterns of illegal migration to the United States. What was a 7-year-old girl doing here, in the middle of the desert, to begin with?

This article explains a new way people from Central America are being brought to the US. I personally do not believe they are being charged for the trip, I think it is all paid for. As you read this article please remember before the death of the girl recently in Border Patrol custody very few knew Antelope Wells existed, even fewer knew where it was. This is a very well planned and organized operation to bring people here and it actually began in early October, before the media started talking about the caravan.

Build the wall and parents will know they can’t get in and they’ll quit killing their children.

New Mexico was the only state the military was not sent to. Why?

This is what I used to do when I was smuggling goods across the border. I’m no dummy. When I went into France (20 mins from my house) from my place in Geneva, Switzerland, to buy groceries and wine much cheaper, I knew to go to the rural neighborhood crossings where the guy got off work at 5pm and was gone from his kiosk by 5:01 pm!

They are invaders, taught to scam this country by using loopholes in our immigration laws.

REMOTE border crossings?

Done for the sole purpose of DILUTING the strength and effectiveness of the Border Patrol.

This invasion is far from organic. Well planned and funded with effective tactics involved.

Why spend BILLIONS on BP 'cat and mouse' WHEN YOU CAN JUST BUILD A PERMANENT WALL?

We have asked why no military on the border here, we are told by Border Patrol that the military is coming here...but no one can tell us when. Our state rat politicians that bother to answer say we don’t need the military here.

This article is proof that alternatives to a wall won’t work. We don’t have the manpower to track and respond to drone images. The wall is necessary.

This area is far more remote than most places that are considered remote. There are no towns on either side of the border for many miles. Very few people live in this area, that makes it impossible for people to blend in until they reach population areas. That is why this area has never been a major smuggling corridor before, people or drugs. Yes it happens here but nothing like this. You are right that smugglers choose remote areas, but generally not this remote.

The area around Antelope Wells is one time the most remote areas in the country, I have been hunting there many times. You can go for days and not see anyone.

Yes that is what I think, all well organized and financed all along the border.

Just my opinion but I think it is being done to force open borders, illegal immigration, and amnesty on us. An added bonus is to embarrass President Trump and try to use this to turn his supporters away from him.

I agree with you. To secure this border it will take a layered security plan and in my opinion a wall/secure fence has to be in place as the first layer of defense.

Yes I live here and often do go days without seeing anyone but my family. I worked at AW for years and often would drive to and from and not see another car.
