Why is this capability not being used to track down the Drug Cartel networks in this country? It seems to me that with this capability, the networks would be snuffed out in no time.

Because the American constituents who are drug bosses in each of the locales have much political influence ($). They do round up some of the third world players, though, and publicly claim that they're the only ones bringing in the drugs. That's usually paired with a statement saying that all of the dangerous drug traffic comes from Mexico. I don't know this 100% (no hard evidence). But it has appeared quite a number of times, that they were covering for local American drug bosses who front money to local bulk buyers.
I don't like the corruption and want it gone. It allows too many its untouchables to victimize good and decent people, who would otherwise be more productive and beneficial to us all.

Because Drug Warriors know that snuffing out cartels would end their gravy train - salaries, pensions, payoffs, asset seizures and tbe like?

Because the Cartel Bosses are all US Government Employees and Agents, we have been Playing both sides since Nixon started the War on controlled substances not available by prescription. Anyone that doesn’t know this must have been asleep in a cave their whole life.
