GoFundMe campaign for Wall hits $15 million

A GoFundMe fundraising campaign to fund the president's border wall has raised nearly $16 million in just 6 days. More than 250,000 Americans have donated to the cause. The goal is to raise a billion dollars toward construction of the wall.

Meanwhile, a liberal transgender activist from Texas has started her own GoFundMe page, attempting to raise $100 million in order to purchase "Ladders to get over Trump's wall." That campaign is off to a slow start. Since Wednesday, the page has raised about $127,000.

The page is the brainchild of triple amputee Brian Kolfage.

Daily Mail:

The campaign description says in part: 'It's time we uphold our laws, and get this wall BUILT! It’s up to Americans to help out and pitch in to get this project rolling.'

On Wednesday Charlotte Clymer, a transgender woman and human rights activist from Texas, launched her own fundraising page in response, titled Ladders to Get Over Trump's Wall.

It's description says: 'We saw some folks are raising money for a border wall to keep out our migrant siblings and fellow human beings, who are fleeing violence and persecution and whose tragically-underpaid labor is essential to the US economy.

'Seems like a bad idea on countless levels for everyone involved. Maybe we should focus on human rights and creating a community that reflects our supposed values.

'And even though at a rate of $1.7million daily, it would take their fund about 35 years to raise the $21.7billion that Trump's own Department of Homeland Security says would be needed to build said wall, we wanna make sure ladders are ready to send over to our undocumented friends and help them.'

In just three days that page has raised more than $127,000 toward its $100million goal,

I remember the Clinton era bake sales to reduce the deficit. The press loved it.

What is probably the most important in the next few days as people focus on Christmas activities is to get ready on Wednesday to make a contribution.

There are over 250,000 contributors now. The minimum contribution is five bucks.

Has anyone researched to see which GoFundMe fundraising campaign has had the most number of people making a contribution?

We know the Times Up campaign raised $22 million, but that was because a few Hollywood heavy hitters each contributed millions of dollars.

Build the Wall is in second place in terms of number of dollars raised.

I suspect Build the Wall might be in first place in terms of number of people who have made a contribution.

Caller to a local drive time radio show that had an open line friday session on the wall/shu down suggested the highest & best use for the millions contributed to the go fund me acount would be: “use it to bribe the congressmen to vote for funding the wall”

The caller obviously understands how things work in DC

At this point the biggest story here is the 265K donors; THAT is support!

I’m pretty sure nothing would stop the fund raiser to work directly with the company contracting for the wall and pay them direct.

They were never going to raise enough, but they were also never going to be able to use the money that was donated. For a change, patriots stuck a big-ass symbol out there for the Left to try to ignore.

“use it to bribe the congressmen to vote for funding the wall”

At $16m that would be about $30,000 per vote.

We need to raise more money. I'd say at least $65m.

Yeah, as good a description of having a country as I’ve ever heard. The reason they want to come here is because we have an orderly society as a result of having uniquely American Law and standards. They bring chaos.

I emailed the Independence Institute to see if their resident constitutional expert Robert Natelson could weigh in on the constitutionality of the GoFundMe for the Wall:

I'm simply too swamped right now to undertake yet another full research project, but it does appear that using private funds in that way would have to be approved by Congress. See https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/6/453.

15 million the politicians haven’t gotten their hands on, yet? Just give ‘em a few more minutes!

If it can't be used to build the wall, I say we use it to get rid of the smug bastards that are preventing us from building the wall.

Note the dichotomy here between conservatives and the LEFT! The LEFT has bemoaned the Trump Tax Cut and the paring out of Obama regulations & Executive Orders. During the Obama Administration, the conservatives did complain about much but still obeyed the ‘laws of the land’!

Now we have conservatives, and probably others, voluntarily taxing (equivalent) themselves to pursue a governmental function. The donors gain no benefit but since the effort is not a recognized charity they also lose a tax benefit they could have gotten if they went that route.

The LEFTists, on the other hand, can easily show their ‘true grit’ (sorry can not resist) by ‘gifting’ their tax cut gain to the US Treasury. Additionally, since this is a recognized charity, they can up their gift by including that tax benefit / deduction.

Any guesses as to which side weighs heavier on the scales?

Only one year to go and they’ll have 20% of what President Trump needs to have a start on the Wall.

We might just have to use this money to build the wall ourselves. Will have to simultaneously fund a small army to keep they commies and government types from trying to stop it.

Land access would. But they can start with willing land owners along the line.
