Bottom line: The locals have to work out their own consensus. Its not up to the American people to sacrifice their blood and treasure. History has shown our entanglements in the region have not benefited the American people. Much has been squandered and needless bitter enemies have been created.

Most Syrians are Sunni. The Others are under Assad.
Wonder how many American globalists who promote these foreign entanglements have themselves served in the military or have any of their immediate family serving in harms way. Remember these are the same people who during the Obama administration did virtually nothing as the Christians in the Mideast were being slaughtered and enslaved.
My understanding is that Libya was a transfer point and yes Benghazi but that was not the only route for arms into Syria to ISIS re Syrian “freedom fighters.”
Recall, when the US trained Syrians to fight and then would arm them. They’d then vanish as if they were never there.
Don’t think that cluster happened only once by the way. What I don’t know if it was by design. Someone get CIA clown McMuffin on the line.

Obama disrupted pretty much disrupted everything in the ME, making the entire area ripe for ISIS-types to exploit, plunder and destroy.
ISIS grew from the occupation era prisons where Islamic fanatics and Saddam’s military and intel professionals met and bonded in mutual hatred of the US and the West. The disbanding of Saddam’s military and intel agencies was a mistake. For continued salaries and a military honorific in retirement, most would have switched allegience or at least remained inactive in order to keep feeding their families and preserve their status.
We were only helping the “moderate rebels,” and Putin promised to drop only “moderate bombs” on them. Good times.

Besides you want the people who have been directly adversely impacted to conduct the cleanup as much as possible.
Much has been said about the many mistakes Pres. Trump has been/is making, but when it’s all said & done he has been right most of the time. That would necessarily mean his opposition has been wrong most of the time, so I guess I’ll stick with the president’s decisions. The right decision is going to be the one that’s best for the country; not necessarily the politically expedient ones.

In that part of the world I think most people don’t care who are their overlords as long as they can eat their falafel and copulate with their camels in relative peace.
I was told basically the same thing by a native Jordanian I work with about seven years ago when we were discussing the Obama/Clinton gang mucking up the Mid East situation. He said the ISIS core was a bunch of muy pissed off former Republican Guards who made the cut post-Saddam.
