What Ruth Bader Ginsburg's lung surgery means

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is said to be "resting comfortably" after surgery at a New York City hospital to remove two cancerous nodules from her lung. It was not her first time dealing cancer, and the news prompted many questions about the 85-year-old justice's well-being.

She underwent a procedure called a lobectomy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to remove the growths in her lung, which were found to be malignant.

What is a lobectomy?

Dr. Raja Flores, chair of thoracic surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, said a lobectomy is a major — but common — surgery. His practice does hundreds of these procedures each year.

A lobectomy involves removing a lobe of the lung. There are five lobes in the lungs, three on the right and two on the left, Flores explained. Ginsburg had her lower left lobe removed.

Now we know what Ginsburg's lobectomy was: the removal of one of the two lobes of her left lung.

While most people tolerate a lobectomy very well she is very old and frail. Also, the fact that more than one lesion was discovered likely means they are metastases from her prior cancers, and there’s a good chance more will emerge. Seriously, she needs to retire and attend to her health. It’s cruel of Democrats to pressure her to keep going just for their political advantage.

My wife has kidney cancer. Two years ago they removed one of them due to a large tumor. This fall they removed part of the other one because of a tumor. Friday we will go for more scans to see where it is heading now.

All it takes is a microscopic piece and the cancer is back.

The doctor CBS interviewed agrees with your view, FTA:

"Because of this history [of prior cancer], Flores said it's likely that slow-moving cancer cells from one of those cases spread to her lungs. As Ginsburg does not have a history of smoking, he said a lung cancer diagnosis was unlikely."

IMHO it's looking more and more like Pravda getting the Soviet people ready for the passing of a "beloved leader."

Her pancreatic cancer was caught very early and removed successfully in 2009. She was treated for colon cancer in 1999 with a combination of chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. Because of this history, Flores said it's likely that slow-moving cancer cells from one of those cases spread to her lungs.

That they would take 10 to 20 years to get to her lungs certainly qualifies as slow-moving cells.

You tend to only find cancer when you look for it. Unless it breaks the skin and grows into an exposed tumor.

My guess is they are not looking for something that they already know is there.

Whether I know it today, or in sixty days. She is going to be just as dead.

After 3 cancers, multiple surgeries, and dementia, she still clings to the position, well after any normal person would have retired. We know she will only be taken out of the job feet first. Why?

Because she is a political ideologue of the highest order. She and her ideologue partners thought Hillary would have the job of replacing her, and simply don’t want Trump to have another pick.
