Back in June, FBI agent Chase Bishop was at a bar in Denver when he decided to do a backflip with his duty weapon on his hip. When he made the made the flip, his gun fell out of the waistband of his pants. As Bishop picked up the firearm to place it back in his pants, he accidentally hit bar-goer Tom Reddington. The round hit one of Reddington's main arteries. According to his attorney, he could have died had witnesses not created a tourniquet with a belt while they waited for EMS to arrive. And it was all caught on video.
Denver District Judge Karen Brody cited Bishop accepted Bishop's plea agreement because of his lack of criminal history, The Denver Post reported.
This is a tragic situation Its a lesson for everyone: How decisions, when youre not being conscious of what youre doing, decisions you make carelessly, with negligence, can turn into really serious consequences," Brody said.
I think in the future you will never make that kind of mistake again," the judge told Bishop.

Remember the agent who shot himself in the foot in front of a classroom? Was that an FBI agent as well?
Two sets of laws. One for the masters. One for us serfs.
Judge Karen Brody didn’t want the stigma among the DOJ elites as having been the judge who “Flogged the Bishop”.
He’ll probably be moved up the ladder in the FBI
Looks like he needs a better IWB holster too. Then he’s all like “It’s okay I’m LEO.” Booze and guns never mix well. Or back flips.
"...BANG!..."
PSA:
Do not gun and backflip while drunk.
Unless you are a trained professional.
Twenty years ago...his FBI supervisor would have heard the story....brought the guy in and put the guy into some deadend office filing situation. If this had been my situation...I’d mandate three years with limit of one single bullet on his person (the Barney-solution).
Dude. He was fired way back.
A more apt punishment would be drumming him out of the FBI and having him reimburse his victim for any out-of-pocket medical expenses as well as loss of pay, etc.
Wow. True stupidity. He got off easy. Wonder why? /sarc
From the article:
“The FBI refused to say whether or not Bishop will still have a job with the agency.”
So, I don’t know. You are I would have been. Just because we’re on FR if for no other reason. LOL!
He’s got a great future as a trick-shot artist!
How many people can shoot someone while doing a backflip?
No. And why no reporting on the blood alcohol test?
"unsuring that this type of incident does not happen again"
Uninsuring? Did the DA really say that? No wonder the guy only got 2 years probation.
Cannot say today but back in Hoover’s day, inspectors would have been in the air in five minutes from DC to Denver and a desk would have been warmed up for him in Butte assuming he was not fired.
There was a book out long ago titled: no left turns. It was about some of the funny stories of the Hoover FBI personnel actions. The title was developed from warnings given to drivers of Hoover’s car when he was visiting from DC. Seems one time one of the drivers making a left turn got into an accident so from then on all drivers were told to make three rights rather than a left turn.
