This may sound like a simple answer, but truly, send home the 10s of millions of illegals here now and not only will their home countries benefit from the human capital who learned much here, but after some, yes, significant adjustments, workers and taxpayers here will gain up and down the ranks.

Health insurance should not be connected to your employment. This wouldn’t be a problem if it were like Switzerland. There, everyone must buy their own health insurance, there are cheap to expensive plans for for everyone. Employers pay for all accidents, so there is no workman’s comp. No industry on either side trying to determine if the injury was caused by the work. Whether you were hurt on the job or on the ski slopes, HR will pay for your treatment and recovery. But health insurance is totally separate, so there is no need to fire the over 50s. And their SS is more significant than ours.

They don’t want to hire over 55 because of medical costs. The (hidden) age discrimination is rampant.

On my immediate team at work, I am the only native-born person.

This phenomenon is just waaaay too common! Can I ask if you are in IT or related field?

I sincerely hope President Trump will not allow the H-1B Visa changes that some in his administration are suggesting!!! Here is a thread discussing the proposed changes.

Trump promises changes to H-1B visas, including potential citizenship
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3719131/posts

Particularly troubling is the fact that there are far more laborers coming in thru H-1B Visas than the 65,000 being touted as the official number**. I have several posts in the thread tht provide some information if you are interested.

**And there are many types of Visas in addition to H-1B Visas.

IMHO, it is one thing to bring in world-renown talent—top level surgeons working at MAYO, top nuclear scientists at Argon National Lab, etc. but to bring in run-of-mill often mediocre Indian programmers which are often trained by US IT professionals who are losing their jobs to these cheap replacements is outrageous!
