I merely made a cultural comparison of the magnitude of the horrors of slavery throughout history.

As for your questions, no, I would not want to be a slave. But it is a RELATIVE question that is implied by that poster. If you had to choose between US and South American slavery, which? Asian or Moslem slavery? Which?

They hate the US and slavery is one of the items they use to show how bad we are. But the question really is, WHERE is a perfect land? WHICH nation has been better? Essentially what you say is no, the slaves were NOT better off than some other land to be enslaved in.
BTW, while Booker and Douglass were indeed truly great blacks, WALT WILLIAMS has been an undying defender of the Confederacy. Does not mean he defends slavery, per se. But he and Sowell are perfect opponents when it comes to talking the so-called CW.

And as for any mention of Irish...why is it ALWAYS the Irish? That in itself always makes me suspicious, never mind I had never heard of any white or Irish issue until like the last decade? Come on. I’ve delved in American history all my life. Don’t like PCness, but that includes anything to do with “Irish”. It’s always the poor, lowly Irish. BS. Always whining on the one hand while chest-thumping on the other. Without any other race to concern with, we can count on Irish taking the place of blacks for martyrdom, real or imagined (Boss Tweed and Tammany Hall ahem)...but unlike blacks, it’s mostly imagined.
