In her speech today at the start of Congress,"Pelosi evoked former President Reagan’s final speech as President, where he emphasized the importance of open borders. “If we ever closed the door to new Americans, our leadership in the world would soon be lost,” she quoted Reagan as saying.

1. started the tax cuts that made a federal welfare state seem cheap.
2. did an unconstitutional amnesty deal.
3. ruined federal financial discipline.
Pretend we had open borders.
Pretend 60 million people were living in Los Angeles County, CA - in garages, cars, in sleeping bags on sidewalks, in the gardens of Beverly Hills, etc.
Imagine if SNAP benefits were cut 80% to hand out benefits to five times more recipients.
Imagine if Section 8 housing vouchers were cut 80% to hand out benefits to five times more recipients.
Imagine an average class size of 110 pupils, as in India.

Look at the streets of your city.
You’ll see homeless people.
Most are homeless due to addictions. Others are homeless due to mental issues.
Some are homeless because the rents are too damn high.

More people want to live in San Francisco than there are apartments to live in.
Stop adding to the homeless problem of your city.
San Francisco was filled up around 1940.
The Bay Area was filled up by the late 1970’s.
We can only take in exceptional people who can not only pay their way, but also pay the welfare costs of those they displace.
Walk through Chinatown. There are very few restaurants nowadays. Why? They are not generally economical.
A willingness to work hard is not enough.
Our metropolitan areas are gigantic. Commuting time is valuable.
A hour of an Apple engineer’s time is simply more valuable than ten hours of Mr. Chef’s time since Apple sells hundreds of billion$ in products.
