Ocasio-Cortez floats 70 percent tax on rich to pay for 'Green New Deal'

Ocasio-Cortez’s climate plan would reduce U.S. carbon emissions to zero — and eliminate the use of fossil fuels — within 12 years.

“It’s going to require a lot of rapid change that we don’t even conceive as possible right now,” she said. “What is the problem with trying to push our technological capacities to the furthest extent possible?”

When Cooper suggested her plan to pay for it was “radical,” Ocasio-Cortez embraced the label.

“Well, I think that it only has ever been radicals that have changed this country,” she said. “Abraham Lincoln made the radical decision to sign the Emancipation Proclamation. Franklin Delano Roosevelt made the radical decision to embark on establishing programs like Social Security. That is radical.”

“Do you call yourself a radical?” Cooper asked.

“Yeah. You know, if that’s what radical means, call me a radical,” she replied

29 years old. Where the F to start with this??

Do they realize that they'd likely cause the US economy to FAIL if we went to zero carbon that fast? I know Audi is releasing a great new electric car in 2019. But these are baby steps. Oil/gas retail, oil/gas exploration, car manufacturers, auto parts suppliers and manufacturers to say nothing of ancillary things like GPS, leather, Bluetooth, chemicals, etc.. etc.... These industries can't retool or vanish in 10-12 years time.

And I'm getting pissed about this "fair share" bull$hit. What exactly is the "fair" number? I paid 15 times more income tax last year than the national average. that means I paid my share and the share of 14 other people. Yet I don't get 15 votes on election day, I don't get water out of my tap 15 times hotter, the police and fire don't come to my house 15 times faster. But I do it because that's the way it works. Fine. I'm privileged. I'd like not to be constantly taken to task for doing so.

By all means, push that through the House.

She’s going to get muzzled by her own party pretty quickly.

The ultra-wealthy Pelosi and the ultra-wealthy Feinstein (and a whole bunch more rich Democrats) probably wouldn’t be real keen on O-C’s idea. After all, they only like to spend other peoples’ money.

I love a tax increase on the rich.

They’re Democrats so perhaps they’re open to fighting climate change.

Let them put their money where their mouth is or shut up.

She should be willing to pay the same rate she demands for others.

Start docking her pay 70%.

Here salary puts her in a rather rarefied category compared to the general populace.

She will make $174,000 dollars this year. https://work.chron.com/us-house-representatives-salary-8425.html

That $174,000 will put you in the 96th percentile of wage earners. https://dqydj.com/income-percentile-calculator/

Also lost in the translation is that there is an effect on the WORLD ECONOMY. The USofA is the SPARKPLUG of the world’s economy, a sneeze here is a flu epidemic there. Occasional-Cortex pays no attention to this in her quest for a SOCIALIST UTOPIA that is impossible to create. She does strongly remind me of the fools that say SOCIALISM will work, it just has never been done properly. To quite the eminent philosopher, Bugs Bunny, “What a Maroon!”
