That’s not necessarily good news as that may be the most bloated, rent-seeking sector in the entire economy save the government itself.

If you knew the profit margins in hospitals, you’d be shocked.

Their services are governed by DRGs (diagnotic related groups), and both the feds and private insurers TELL HOSPITALS what they will pay. Hospitals have reacted by cutting every single thing they can. Maternity stays are often same day release, certainly the next morning. My kids were five and three day stays years ago. It used to be a week or more before that.

At one time a hospital I worked at was losing money on every maternity case. They kept doing them to remain viable for other cases where they could make money.

My simple check up required 3 separate assistants/nurses last time I was at the doctors office. Five if you include the person who checks you in/out. They were different.

Correct.

That is actually very BAD news.

It is not a sector you want to increase. Most of those hires are not actually in healthcare, but in processing. So they do little true value added work.

Also a sector that is dominated by government. Ditto for education. Everything government sticks its big nose into costs more and delivers less than promise. Government creates bureaucracy, stifles innovation, and is never penalized for its mistakes.

The biggest increase was in home health workers.... the jobs only illegal aliens will take allegedly.

We can’t have it both ways. Either we support Americans taking these jobs... or we support illegals taking these jobs. These home health workers used to be on Medicaid. Now they work.

Baby boomers are getting older. Increasingly, there will be a need for home-health-workers.

Although home-health-workers were the biggest gain, Other healthcare occupations are also growing. Currently IBM Watson Health Care is hiring IT workers. They seem to be having trouble finding sufficiently competent workers.

There is a flat out shortage of educated competent Americans. We have a failed education system that is now biting us on the JOBS side.
