Remorse and guilt are, IMHO, mainly Christian notions. In my dealings with Arabs and Muslims (especially men, as one doesn't meet women often), in general they are trained to smell-out, and act on power. Who has power and leverage? who can harm you? Its those who deserve your concern.
And for infidels and kaffirs - especially those unknown and unconnected to you - they do not matter

I’d say they’re mainly Judeo-Christian notions...but yeah, I agree with you.
And in the course of my travels I’ve had minor contact with a few Saudi nationals. Like you said, men only. And I always felt like I was dealing with a professional used-car salesman. Quick with that fake smile, and always on the alert for an opening.

The unimportance of the young girl to the writer is reflected in the article. The writer spends most of his time painting the defendant as a sympathetic character wracked with “guilt.” The poor soul was losing weight. No doubt he was worried about his upcoming stint in prison, and not the young girl he killed. On the other hand, the writer’s description of the young girl is flat, as if to say “Oh yeah, did I mention she is dead?” But, given the events occurred in Portland, I can’t say I am surprised.
There are two people that God speaks to very, very clearly. Those that pray and ask for God’s guidance, and then there are those that actively champion and hate God. I think God likes to talk to the latter to taunt and harass them, and haunt them. This is why so many atheists are livid at the mere mention of God. Atheists don’t believe that God doesn’t exist, no they WISH he didn’t exist.

An illegal alien drove over and killed two young girls playing in a leaf pile in an adjacent community to the Portland area. The community politicians and media gave the same sympathy to the illegal as the Saudi guy.
