Rev. Shuttlesworth was a hardcore communist sympathizer himself. In fact, of all the major SCLC leaders, he had one of the longest records of supporting Communist Party USA fronts and causes. Search for his name at www.keywiki.org and see what comes up.
His wife met the Hanoi front group the Viet Cong/NLF in Indonesia in 1975 while he was a member of the “Hanoi Lobby” anti-US Vietnam protest groups including the various “Mobes”.
He also was convicted and jail for raping his own daughter.
This is interesting because another key SCLC leader, Rev. Willie Barrows, Chicago, went to Hanoi with fellow Hanoinik Irma Zigas, in 1971 (See: The Loyal Opposition: Americans in North Vietnam, 1965-1972”, James W. Clinton).
She was also deeply involved in CPUSA fronts and causes, some of which were published in House Internal Security Committee hearings and reports.
Barrows was a good friend of Michelle Obama and there is a picture of them together, possibly at Keywiki.org and/or “www.DiscoverTheNetwork.org. I know that this photo has been published in the “ Comments” here are FR many times.
Just found an old newspaper article about her, “Hill Democrats Call for Resignation of DNC Member”, 9/29/88, Washington Jewish Week, by Walter Ruby & Larry Cohler.
“Three Democratic congressmen have called for the resignation of a member of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) who once expressed “love” for Rev. Louis Farakhan, the radical Black Muslim leader who has made anti-Semitic statements”.
“In separate interviews with the WJW, Reps. Larry Smith (D-Fla), Barney Frank (D-Mass) and Gary Ackerman (D-NY) called for the resignation of Rev. Willie Barrow, executive director of the Chicago-based Operation PUSH, a strong supporter of Operation PUSH under Rev. Jessie Jackson, attained her DNC seat after the Democratic national convention last August.”
Barrow has a CPUSA front record a mile long and has been connected to Castro operations in Cuba (There should be an article at Keywiki or elsewhere, possibly Wikipedia, about her trip to Cuba with a bunch of mixed reds).
She is a nasty piece of work.
in fact, the SCLC was infiltrated by the CPUSA/KGB literally at its inception, with key Dr. King Jr aides, Stanley Levison (admitted CPUSA and KGB money handler for the CPUSA - Sen. Church’s committee hearings on Intelligence, 1975) and personal aide Jack O’Dell (CPUSA South organizer and probably KGB asset due to documents seized in his apartment in 1956 “HCUA, Hearings on Communist Activities in the South”), having serious control on Dr. King, known as the “KGB Sandwich” tactic.
Another SCLC Board member/leader, Rev. Bernard Lee, was listed as a member of the CPUSA-created and dominated delegation to the Soviet/KGB-CPSU created “World Peace Council” in their “world Peace Council: List of Members 1977-1980” book.
If I had my other books handy, I could give you a lot more information on Shuttlesworth, Barrow, Jesse Jackson, and even Ralph Abernathy (once a WPC VP; later he defected from the Marxists and worked against them in the 1980s), etc.
Oh, by the way, also a member of the US delegation to the WPC from 1977-80 was Angela Davis’ CPUSA member mother, Sallye Davis, “Member, executive committee, National Alliance Against racist & Political Repression” (NAARPR, the old CPUSA front “Angela Davis Defense Committee”(s) new name about 1971.

The USSR collapsed in 1991, think about that for a moment. That is now 28 years ago. If you are 40, you would have been 12 years old when it collapsed. Those of us that grew up and became adults shaped by the cold war and communism are getting older and older. More and more adults had their worldview shaped by post cold war events.
IMO, we screwed up in a lot of ways by not making Communism a pariah just like Fascism has become. For instance, we’ve made plenty of movies over the years depicting the Nazis as the bad guys (think all of the Raiders of the Lost Ark movies) or lampooned them (the Producers by Mel Brooks), but how many big movies are there that do this to the Soviets?
We also screwed up by not doing for them what we did for West Germany after WWII. In other words assist them into moving back into the communities of Nations and assist their fledgling Democracy. Instead, we spent money on kicking them while they were down. Can you imagine if we had a strong democratic ally in Russia right now who was a true ally instead of the tinpot dictator, Putin we have to deal with what that would be like?
