All of the defenders of these immigration policies look to the past as to how countries welcomed immigrants (like the U.S.) before. What the pro immigrant defenders fail to mention is that back then the immigrants coming in where expected to contribute to society in making it grow and not be a burden on the society by sucking up it's social services.

Correct, immigrants use the welfare system to a much greater degree than the native born. We are importing poverty and destroying our social safety net at great cost to the taxpayer.

But it goes beyond economics. 87% of the 1.1 million legal immigrants who enter the US annually are minorities as classified by the USG. They are not assimilating for a variety of reasons. The US is being Balkanized along racial, ethnic, cultural, and linguistic lines. Everyone is a victim except non-Hispanic, white males. The Dems and our educational system are encouraging this divisiveness. Immigrants and their US born children drive 80% of our population growth.

Just like in this country, either the polling is wrong or the voting is wrong because you cannot have 80% being against migrants and Macron winning by 66% to 34% over Marine Le Pen with a low turnout. Same here where polling purports to show majorities reaching into the 60% range reject benefits and other accommodations for illegal aliens, but that doesn't align with the House going back to the RATS and the underperformance of the Republicans in getting more Senate seats. I know the GOPe is exquisitely good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, but 60%+ majorities should vote for them against the RATS who are clearly on the side of illegals in spite of that.

The “back then” that you mention did not have today’s social services to suck up. This is a fact that even Freepers like to ignore. Back then everyone, immigrant (legal or not) and citizen both had to either work or not eat. If you fell on hardtimes you relied on family, church, or neighbors. If you couldn’t feed your kids they went to an orphanage.

Today people want all of their social security, Medicare, subsidized loans for houses and education, cheap health care, unemployed loyment and etc.

There are plenty of Reps who agree with the Dems on illegal aliens. They helped the Dems pass amnesty in the Senate in 2013. The Koch brothers and the CoC support amnesty and high legal immigration rates.
