Although I work in Alaska, I have a home in Redding, north of Sacramento. I have been trying to get my wife to be willing to move out of California but she resists because of family and friends (and the fact she has lived there for 55 years).

My compromise that I hope she will accept is Northern Nevada. Out of Cali but still within 4 hours of family and friends.

Newsome may make the transition easier, now.

Northern Nevada is very nice. Having lived in Western Washington all my life, it is a little hard to adjust to the dry desolate terrain in most of Nevada. My wife likes a tropical climate, so we are most likely to move to Central Florida or Georgia close to friends and relatives there. California would actually be far more convenient geographically and closer to most of our family. We have a small economical airplane, so six hours currently takes us from our doorstep to my sister-in-law's place
