Transportation Security Agency officers forced to work without knowing when their next paycheck is coming are no longer just calling in sick. Now, 18 days into the partial government shutdown, some are resigning, according to Hydrick Thomas, who heads the TSA Council on the American Federation of Government Employees.
“Every day I’m getting calls from my members about their extreme financial hardships and need for a paycheck. Some of them have already quit and many are considering quitting the federal workforce because of this shutdown,” the official said in a statement posted to the union's website on Tuesday. He did not specify how many had quit.
As essential employees, the country's approximately 50,000 TSA officers must remain on the job despite the shutdown.

Jeez, since its founding the TSA has always had staff turnover. It’s a thankless job and it’s common for its employees to move on to better jobs.
The airport in Kansas City has always had a private security firm doing that . It can be done.
Homeland Security has reserves and military ready to step in.

Now, wait just a minute. No government worker has missed a single paycheck and besides that I thought Trump had made sure they got paid. Either way, they’re not hurting. Don’t they get paid on the 15th and the last of the month? This is just the 9th.
The TSA is an almost completely worthless organization which doesn’t make anyone any safer. It has been shown over and over again that anyone who has evil intent can outsmart these buffoons 99% of the time.

How can this be? Only GOVERNMENT can provide security and safety. All bow before Government Almighty!
Each airport should be able to take advantage of this situation, and PRIVATISE their security (Like San Fran has done). De-Fund this unionized govt. worker source of union dues to AFGE (and thus AFL-CIO, and part of SEIU). They want to leave? form a private company ready to take over.
It was an idiotic thing to do ... so we’d “feel good” with the appearance of security vs. the actual result of people motivated to provide security. Those collecting a check (and feeling up grandma... Christian white grandma at that) and leaving alone hijab clad islamos PC body searches. Get rid of the whole lot.
Somebody— step in here and fill the gap with private TSA contractors, at 30% of the cost and no unions.
Music to my ears. I hope this shutdown lasts another decade.
