President Trump said the "real collusion" story was Democrats and cable news pundits accusing him of creating a "manufactured crisis" in his push for a border wall.
Trump spoke with Sean Hannity during a trip to McAllen, Texas, where the Fox News host asked the president for his thoughts on the phrase.
"I saw on your show actually where you had anchor after anchor using the exact same word. 'Its manufactured, manufactured,'" Trump said.
"Sounds like theyre in collusion," Hannity chimed in.
"Yeah, little collusion," Trump said. "Thats the real collusion, OK? That's the real collusion. You take a look because they all use the exact same term. I mean literally the exact same two words.
"Its a manufactured crisis," Trump continued, parroting the phrase. "No, its a manufactured soundbite because it was just a soundbite."
The president went on to praise Hannity as "real news," and called the proliferation of the word "manufactured" in relation to the border "very sad."
Trump regularly decries unfavorable coverage as "fake news." He has frequently denied he colluded with Russia in the 2016 election amid special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian interference.
Earlier in his broadcast, Hannity played a series of clips showing cable news pundits most of whom are hosts or contributors rather than reporters calling Trump's comments about the southern border a "manufactured crisis."
Hannity also rolled footage of Democratic lawmakers in recent days accusing the president of manufacturing a crisis. Most of the clips were cut quickly and lacked the context of full quotes.
Trump has portrayed his proposed wall along the southern border as a necessity to thwart a humanitarian and security crisis, and a deterrent to drugs and crime pouring into the U.S. He traveled to Texas on Thursday to drum up support for the wall.
The president has demanded more than $5 billion in funding for the wall, while Democrats have offered money for other border security measures but nothing for the wall. The disagreement has been at the center of a partial government shutdown that has lasted 20 days and counting.
Trump indicated on Thursday that he's likely to declare a national emergency to direct construction of the wall, a move that is sure to draw legal challenges.
They will be livid about this. The nerve of him to use the word collusion. If there is one thing they can’t stand, it’s being made fun of.
Thanks yesthatjallen.
Trump is on fire this week.
“Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon”.
That’s one of Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, but it could be one of Trump’s Rules for Persuasion as well. It works, just ask Lyin’ Ted or Cryin’ Chuck.
Alinsky, you magnificent bastard, I read your book!
Instead, we tiptoe (in the guise of political correctness) around tragedy and instead yak... yak.. yak... in a vain attempt to win our argument for border security to prevent future tradgedies.
I said the very same thing on another thread.
Might be a little crass to families to show the actual crime scene photos ...
Fake news about fake news! It's not about unfavorable coverage, morons. It is the f'n lies that makes your news fake.
I would guess that most families would gladly give their permission. The start reality of what the invading illegals are doing has to be brought to light for those who refuse to believe there is a problem.
Note the second rule of propaganda
The Rules of Propaganda
Propagandists must have access to intelligence concerning events and public opinion.
Propaganda must be planned and executed by only one authority.
It must issue all the propaganda directives.
It must explain propaganda directives to important officials and maintain their morale.
It must oversee other agencies’ activities which have propaganda consequences.
The Propaganda consequences of an action must be considered in planning that action.
Propaganda must affect the enemy’s policy and actions.
By suppressing propagandistically desirable material which can provide the enemy with useful intelligence.
By openly disseminating propaganda whose contents or tone causes the enemy to draw the desired conclusions.
By goading the enemy into revealing vital information about himself.
By making no reference to a desired enemy activity when any reference would discredit that activity.
Declassified, operational information must be available to implement a propaganda campaign.
To be perceived, propaganda must evoke the interest of an audience and must be transmitted through an attention-getting medium.
Credibility alone must determine whether propaganda output should be true or false.
The purpose, content, and effectiveness of enemy propaganda; the strength and effects of an expose’; and the nature of current propaganda campaigns determine whether enemy propaganda should be ignored or refuted.
Credibility, intelligence, and the possible effects of communicating determine whether propaganda materials should be censored.
Material from enemy propaganda may be utilized in operations when it helps diminish that enemy’s prestige or lends support to the propagandist’s own objective.
Black rather than white propaganda must be employed when the latter is less credible or produces undesirable effects.
Propaganda may be facilitated by leaders with prestige.
Propaganda must be carefully timed.
The communication must reach the audience ahead of competing propaganda.
A propaganda campaign must begin at the optimum moment.
A propaganda theme must be repeated, but not beyond some point of diminishing effectiveness.
Propaganda must label events and people with distinctive phrases or slogans.
They must evoke responses which the audience previously possesses.
They must be capable of being easily learned.
They must be utilized again and again, but only in appropriate situations.
They must be boomerang-proof.
Propaganda to the home front must prevent the raising of false hopes which can be blasted by future events.
Propaganda to the home front must create an optimum anxiety level.
Propaganda must reinforce anxiety concerning the consequences of defeat.
Propaganda must diminish anxiety (other than that concerning the consequences of defeat) which is too high and cannot be reduced by people themselves.
Propaganda to the home front must diminish the impact of frustration.
Inevitable frustrations must be anticipated.
Inevitable frustrations must be placed in perspective.
Propaganda must facilitate the displacement of aggression by specifying the targets for hatred.
Propaganda cannot immediately affect strong counter-tendencies; instead it must offer some form of action or diversion, or both.
These would be principles guiding the conduct of propaganda operations.
Mr. President: Never let a good crisis go to waste.
Very possible - but they would need to be contacted before showing gory pics of their loved ones.
