Garland was nominated in March 2016, on Super Tuesday primary day.

If Ginsburg steps down in January or February 2020, I think people might be okay with a nomination because the candidate field may be very unsettled at that time.

The argument for letting voters decide may not resonate as much as it did in 2016 when the candidates were known and the contrasts were so clear.

Still, the Democrats have never been shy about making bold, even hypocritical, demands when it suits their needs. The question, as always, will be how the Republicans respond.

Still an election year and a few weeks difference isn't going to keep the Democrats from screaming 'hypocrisy'. And I can't say I'd blame them; McConnell chose to give the Biden rule as his excuse. He'd have to live with it.
