The 48-hour build-up to President Trumps first Oval Office address to the nation was chock-full of breathless hand-wringing in the media over whether they should air the speech in the first place.
How can we air a speech that will be full of lies and distortions? they asked each other on endless panel shows. Maybe we should tape-delay the address so we can contextualize his statements and provide a thorough fact-check, they insultingly suggested.
This is the Trump era. Fact-checking has moved into the mainstream. CNNs 22-year-old production assistants are now responsible for running lower-third graphics designed to snark the presidents remarks so their dwindling audience can feel the smugness that comes with knowing theyve received the revealed truth thereby forgoing any need to hear alternate views or challenge a belief.
But this week, something changed. This week, the media fact-checkers jumped the shark.

Their “fact checking” has become “debating”.
From my perspective, they jumped the shark on this a long time ago, but the article uses a cold, hard example and runs with it excellently.

They’ve so jumped the shark they now engage in preemptive bias
How can we air a speech that will be full of lies and distortions?
they did it for 8 years and didn’t bat an eye.
The FCC needs to start pulling some licenses. Airing of outright lies during a “news” broadcast (as the media has provable done) is counter to the public interest.
It’s like I always say:
If you are on firm moral ground, if you are being honorable, straightforward and ‘in compliance’ with the rules/laws/protocols.... then, you do NOT need to stoop to this kind of stuff. It’s for losers
TRUTH is making headway. I always check the online news from our former community in California. Today there was a story from San Diego, where CNN is cratering because of their lies about the border. One small step for truth..........
The dems are working overtime to change the meaning of common words.
Fact Check = Did he repeat our unfactual opinion story.
Negotiate = Conservative must give in and do EXACTLY what the Democrats want.
Free Election = Have non-citizens go out and fill out other peoples ballots and return them to the ballot counters after the deadline.
...
Obviously someone does, to ensure that the “facts” they publish fit the narrative.
Rush mentioned the rape statistic the other day, where the number the fact-checkers came up with was HIGHER than what the President said. It got pulled pretty promptly but not before being noticed.
Somebody probably got fired, or at least severely chastized, for making a fact public before making sure it was the “right” kind of fact.
Like Crazy-Eye-Nancy and Smirky-Face-Chucky, they “rebutted” many things Trump did not say, used no facts, tried to instill fear into their base, and then accused Trump of using fear and no facts.....can’t make this crap up.
If President Trump says “Good Evening”, media fact checkers hurry to correct him.
The Ninth Circuit would reverse a coin toss he made at a football game.
CNN will oppose his next Supreme Court pick, before a name is announced.

Where's "FLASHBACK:"? :^)
Free Speech is fine... We can fight their lies better by outing them - than by shutting them down.
Shutting down ‘speech’ is a liberal tactic - it’s NOT our way.
They can talk all they want. They just can’t use OUR airwaves to lie. The licenses are granted for the common good. If they abuse that good, then give the license to someone who won’t abuse it.
Just like their Presidential debate moderating.
