I offer the following response to Senator Van Hollens letter regarding the partial government shutdown [Creating the shutdown for a wall is nothing to be proud of, Mr. President, Jan. 9].
I am a federal employee within the DHS and I am in an excepted position so I have been working throughout the shutdown. If the shutdown continues past Jan. 11, I will miss my first paycheck. My mortgage will not be paid on time. I support President Trumps efforts to secure the border, and I support legal immigration.
The Democrats say there is no need for additional barriers at the border; even though they (Pelosi, Schumer, Obama, Clinton) have voted for such barriers in the recent past. They say their experts say barriers do not work, yet they fail to mention who are their so-called experts. The presidents experts are the men and women of the DHS, more importantly, the customs and border patrol agents. These are the brave people on the front lines. These are the people who are requesting the much needed resources, including additional barriers. They say barriers do work. Specifically, when barriers were installed on the border near San Diego, illegal crossings dropped by 90 percent in the area.
The Democrats have given the president no other choice. The Democrats our way or the highway attitude is just another resist tactic. This is no way to govern. To effectively govern, both parties must negotiate to reach a bipartisan agreement. President Trump and his administration have openly indicated that they are prepared to do so. The Democrats want him to re-open the government first. If he does so, he will lose any leverage he has to reach an agreeable conclusion. If the government re-opens prior to agreeing to some wall funding, the Democrats will continue their resist efforts and will continue to kick the can down the road.
The Democrats say the barrier is a waste of money, and yet, Congress wastes billions and billions of dollars every year. Congress just approved $15 billion in foreign aid to various countries, most of which have corrupt governments, but they cant agree on a lesser amount for border security in our own country.
Plus, let us not forget, during the Obama administration we sent in excess of $30 billion to Iran between 2014 and 2016 for nothing in return. Google it. Iran, a country that burns our flag on a regular basis while chanting death to Americans.
The $5.6 billion the president has requested will pay for itself within the first year. The U.S. spends over $100 billion each year in domestic services (housing, clothing, food, health care, etc) for illegal immigrants.
The savings from the reduction in illegal crossings alone will more than cover the requested amount. The barrier funding will also provide many additional benefits to the country: less drugs, human-trafficking and other crime.
The only reason the Democrats are fighting funding border security is the simple fact that they know it will work. Nothing is 100 percent, but the positive change will be dramatic. The result will be a win for the president and they dont want that. He has already accomplished a lot for our country. If he is able to repair our out of control border, he will cruise to another victory in 2020.
Senator Van Hollen, do your job and encourage your Democratic colleagues to do the same. Get to the table and work with the president to reach a fair and reasonable compromise.
Steadfast Mr. President, this federal employee, in non-pay status, stands with you.
ABC, CBS, NBC and CNN are focusing resources on finding disgruntled Fed workers and other stories (no food inspectors will kill us) to help support Schumck and Nancy.
The will avoid positive stories like this one and all reports will effectively be doomsday scenarios.
As does this federal employee -
There are a lot more conservative Trump-supporters in the federal workforce than most people would believe. We don’t join the unions, and they don’t speak for us.
Stay the course, Mr. Trump!
We can all do a little to help; I just purchased lunch for all the Border Patrol agents working at the checkpoint near Tombstone, AZ. Only cost me $50, well worth it and very appreciated!
That was a wonderful idea and gesture. Thank you.
There...fixed it.
The only mortgages federal workers miss are for their second houses.
Were there any deals struck between Nancy Schumer (I like that name) and the Federal Unions to keep quiet, sit tight, and “we’ll take care of you” during the shutdown?
Obvious truth #1, which has been restated so many times, but needs to be re-stated at every opportunity: If illegal immigrants were Republicans, ChuckaPelosi would not only be opposed to them, they would physically pick up a trowel and PERSONALLY lay down the mortar to build the wall.
Nope -
No second house here. Having the kid in a Christian high school rather than a public sewer school puts a dent in the finances, on top of the wife taking years off work to 1) raise our daughter, and 2) care for my elderly/sickly mother.
I know it’s fun to think we’re all do-nothing fat and happy lefties.
Stay Strong, Mr. Trump
Preach it!

...
Good for you and I salute you...you are not alone, however, I’d say it is 95/05.
Stay strong, as I know your pay will be recouped.
I also support President Trump as do numerous others where I work. This habit of kicking the can down the road has to stop.
