It is definitely in the best interests of EVERYBODY in the Middle East to contain the territorial designs of BOTH Turkey and Iran, a most unfortunate axis of evil now forming. The command-and-control element of both national governments is most comparable to the madness that arose in Germany subsequent to the Great War of 1914-1918. Somebody is the scapegoat and they intend to eliminate that somebody with a widespread genocide.
If they cannot reach the Jews (who are certain to hit back in full force), they will for sure go after the Kurds, and whatever elements of Christianity that still exist in the Middle East.

The entanglement of Iranian interests in Syria is much more complicated than “ expelling every boot”. It is financial, ethnic, religious, social.
Especially as long as Israel remains in the Golan, Syria is not going to cut ties with a longtime ally that has helped it fight ISIS and provides a counterweight to Israel and Turkey.
Notice that the Trump administration is “plotting”.
Not cooperating, planning, teaming, uniting, working together, forming an alliance...

If you want to keep the Iranians out of Syria, then we probably need to keep troops at the base in al-Tanf. With the US gone, Iran will more easily be able to transfer sophisticated weapons to Hezbollah in Lebanon, and to deploy its own forces and weapons against Israel from Syria.
