THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

HARRY WARREN

THE CADDY: “THAT’S AMORE”

Working at Paramount was a mixed blessing. The act most recently signed by the studio was Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis, who had experienced success in nightclubs, radio and the new medium of television in the years after the war. The French still love Jerry Lewis, but his movies haven’t aged well. This 1953 movie was a tremendous success, and Harry rang the cash register once again along with lyricist Jack Brooks. You can hear his love of Italian folk songs and opera.

This is a clip from the movie, and the song was handled in a much simpler manner than the hit record.
