I worked in 4 embassies and visited several others. They can afford to miss a few meals.

Ask State how many times embassy personnel keep moving to different housing because someone senior comes in, and they can't live in quarters that is below the standards of the incumbent?

Waste of money. Also....get rid of their maids. And gardeners. And drivers. Learn to live like an American. It would actually go a long way in earning the respect of the host government.

I did one tour in Sierra Leone, stayed in the same house the whole tour, but saw every other person in that place scream and cry about their houses over and over again. They would move, and start screaming and crying about the new place.

The only ones who never seemed to throw a hiss fit were the DAO people, the military. They knew how good a deal they were getting.
