Inevitably, the divorce has become fodder for advancing policies unrelated to core issues of marriage, divorce, and fidelity. And in the Age of Ocasio-Cortezshe who has revived the hoary notion of confiscatory tax ratesit was inevitable that some liberal in the media would seize on the divorce as justification for soaking the rich.
Enter Ryan Cooper, a national correspondent at TheWeek.com. The actual title of his column: "The real lesson of Jeff Bezos' divorce drama? Soak the rich." Give the guy credit for candor, if not for an understanding of our founding documents or of economics.
Cooper claims that the divorce "is a good piece of evidence in the case for confiscatory top marginal tax rates."

Anti-capitalist correspondent at TheWeek.com writes that the lesson of the Bezos divorce is that we should “soak the rich” and impose “confiscatory” tax rates.
Ping to Liberal Media Criticism list.
Divorce Tax ,LOL
progressive tax rates are inherently unjust.
PING!
Really? Why? Look at the price differentials between what Amazon charges and what other stores charge. He, probably more than anyone else, has raised the purchasing power of all income groups more than any other individual or institution. Lower prices benefits all, and proportionately, the poor the most. But, let's not think about that because, by liberal definition, anyone who isn't poor is bad. Trust me, I've tried poor and wouldn't mind trying rich, and I don't think I'm alone in this sentiment.
Bezos claims he sent a photo of “his” package to his mistress. But how do we know it was “his” package?
That needs to be verified ASAP. It’s unlawful to use the mails (or electronics) to defraud.
I’m dying to read the affidavits. BOL.
Jeff Bezos’ girlfriend will keep sleaze peddlers informed about his private life for years to come... buy National Enquirer stock...
He’ll be held up to ridicule for all to see... an interesting version of Anthony Weiner to laugh at... Bezos is such a fool.
Well, given that in this excessively weird society weve created, almost ALL of the super-rich are left wingers (and many are wealthy because of their political connections to Uniparty), Id say they are just reaping what they sow. Fools like this writer are their fellow leftist riders. The rich have made their bed with their political connections and their political sensibilities. They can enjoy their Occasio-Cortez allies.
Great observations.
Someone should ask Ryan Cooper what he thinks is his "fair share" of something someone else worked for.
Many years ago I took a college course on the Philosophy of Taxation.
Taught by a Lefty, of course. His whole emphasis was that we needed to find an approach to taxation which was FAIR. It was all about fairness. As long as the government is fair, the tax system was OK.
And this, of course was why Flat Taxes were bad. Very evil. Treating everyone exactly the same?????? That's not fair!!
Obviously, a Progressive Tax approach was the superior idea. And this could best be implemented by having a group of individuals get together and decide who the Winners and Losers were going to be when it came to tax policy. A small set of Elite Intellectuals would figure out who to screw over. This was the only fair approach.
He taught this with a straight face.
Who says the government has the right to seize money earned legally? It doesnt.
I have just ONE question:
HOW MANY people are being paid their wages on the payrolls of Amazon & other Bezo’s owned entities ?
How many are on payroll of this author???
How many employees have this guy’s signature on the FRONT of their paychecks?
How many have their paychecks with Bezos’ signature on the front?
My brother always said......Not more than 1 person in 100 is capable of signing the Front of the paycheck, but every idiot can sign the back.
Today, I have told him he needs to change that statement to 1 in 1000.
2 wolves & 1 sheep voting on what is for dinner.
So, according to nobody Ryan Cooper, we should punish the successful.
Doing my ‘gazintas’, that was 2 questions...
