On day one of the first Los Angeles Unified School District teachers strike in 30 years, United Teachers Los Angeles President Alex Caputo-Pearl spoke to teachers and students gathered on a rainy Monday in Los Feliz.
Here we are on a rainy day in the richest country in the world, in the richest state in the country, in a state as blue as it can be, and in a city rife with millionaires, where teachers have to go on strike to get the basics for our students, Caputo-Pearl said.
The strike, originally scheduled to take place last Thursday, was delayed until Monday in hopes of reaching a last-minute deal.
Instead, more than 32,000 Los Angeles teachers and staff members walked off the job Monday, leaving about 600,000 students to wonder when they will see them again.

The kids are probably already smarter.
ping
Which means half the Children of Mexico aren’t being “educated” today.
Teachers doing their own Banzai Government Shutdown.
And Guatemala and Honduras and El Salvador..............
ATC their clinton-voting pervert butts.
Call it the Ronaldus Magnus memorial scumbag firing.
Government workers go on strike to protest low pay?...............
How much pay, benefits and perks were increased over those 30 years for these unionized leftist?
I’d like to see the data on that!
Steer cleat of LA’s malls until schools back in session.

>>The kids are probably already smarter.
That may be, but how will they know good-think without their daily dose of indoctrination?

I am, in general, pro-union. But someone really needs to challenge Caputo-Pearl on that statement. Are the teachers striking for higher pay, or simply for more school supplies? I strongly suspect it’s the former.
+100
Thirty years ago teachers were given the benefit of the doubt and got a lot of sympathy from the people.
Things have CHANGED.
The product they produce was/is terrible and it’s not because of overcrowding. I am far from the only one who experienced 59 little fellow classmates when we were in school.
Numbers are irrelevant. Try getting teachers who know the subject matter and can TEACH.
No support from me.
What does this even mean? The richest country in the world, a state as blue as can be, a city with many millionaires, but schools don’t have the resources they need? Is he really saying schools are broke? Is he angry that up schools can allegedly be underfunded in a so-called Blue State? Does it offend the sensibilities, because of politics, that we find ourselves at this point?
This statement sounds like a certain amount of nonsense to me.
If they can teach, it will be the sanitized, PC-approved mush dictated by the scrooll boards with no deviation.
And with requested pronouns. That’s the only thing that’ll get ‘em fired.
LA United Is one of the WORST school districts in the nation and I will tell you why..for a few reasons..you have 25 kids to a classroom, and the majority of those kids don’t speak a word of English..these kids came to this country illegally with their parents(Or whoever brought them here) they go to school, dont know the language, have to be taught slowly, and this takes away from the other kids learning something..and by the way, the illegals in the classroom, WE the taxpayer pay for them obviously..so you have too many kids, and teachers dont know what to do with them..they can’t tell how they really feel, because hey that would be racist to even mention it
My cousin worked at a high school many years ago, Van Nuys high school, he was a teacher, left after a month, couldn’t take it..the kids, stupid as you can ever imagine, they were more interested in doing gang signs than anything else, most didnt speak English, and they would get into fights in the classroom, he couldnt take it and quit
Love your screen name. One of the best and funniest sitcoms ever.
