On day one of the first Los Angeles Unified School District teachers strike in 30 years, United Teachers Los Angeles President Alex Caputo-Pearl spoke to teachers and students gathered on a rainy Monday in Los Feliz.
Here we are on a rainy day in the richest country in the world, in the richest state in the country, in a state as blue as it can be, and in a city rife with millionaires, where teachers have to go on strike to get the basics for our students, Caputo-Pearl said.
The strike, originally scheduled to take place last Thursday, was delayed until Monday in hopes of reaching a last-minute deal.
Instead, more than 32,000 Los Angeles teachers and staff members walked off the job Monday, leaving about 600,000 students to wonder when they will see them again.

Public education was the state’s response to the Catholic schools that the nuns set up in the ‘new country.’ The feds were afraid that too many little children would be taught about God, and wanted their own secular version. Maybe it’s time for them to fail. All they are is propaganda-pushers at this point.
I cant find an LAUSD school around here that is not a charter school.

There are several LAUSD Charter Schools in San Fernando Valley...El Camino Real Charter High School...Granada Hills Charter High School...Birmingham Community Charter High School...
There is Palisades Charter High School in Pacific Palisades...
Teachers in those schools are not striking...
My cousin worked at a high school many years ago, Van Nuys high school, he was a teacher, left after a month, couldnt take it..the kids, stupid as you can ever imagine, they were more interested in doing gang signs than anything else, most didnt speak English, and they would get into fights in the classroom, he couldnt take it and quit

I attended a high school in Van Nuys a long time ago...Not Van Nuys High...My high school is near Encino and Tarzana...
My high school now is not like when I went to school...Racial composition of school has changed...
Taft is also a charter are striking.
