Most people think President Trump's critics are trying to use Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation to delegitimize the 2016 elections, the latest IBD/TIPP Poll finds. And a plurality thinks the FBI investigation into Trump's alleged ties to Russia was meant to rein him in.
These findings come in the wake of a New York Times story Friday that claimed the FBI had opened a counterintelligence probe into Trump several months into his presidency
The probe began, the Times says, days after Trump fired then FBI Director James Comey and was meant to determine whether Trump was a Russian agent.
Trump blasted the report, and said that the question of his being a Russian agent is "the most insulting thing I've ever been asked."
Politicized Investigation The IBD/TIPP Poll found that 51% agree that "the president's opponents are using the ongoing special counsel investigation into alleged Trump-Russia collusion as a way to delegitimize the 2016 election."
That includes most independents (52%), as well as the vast majority of Republicans (70%). The poll found that almost a third of Democrats (31%) agree with that statement.
Overall, 44% disagreed with that statement.
"Americans can see through this charade and recognize the 'open secret' that the real goal of the opposition and the media is to delegitimize the outcome of the 2016 election and remove Trump from office one way or the other," said Raghavan Mayur, president of TechnoMetrica who directed the poll.

Great news!!!
Thanks for this post, especially after seeing bad news from Rasmussen on Newsmax TV’s crawl earlier today.
Good. People are starting to find and use their braincells.
I thought Drudge said Trumps’s approval was down because of the shutdown.
I think liberals are beginning to panic.
To be honest, I have eschewed visiting Drudge for a while.
He seemed to be moving too far left to suit me, but I did actually see the disappointing Rasmussen number on Newsmax which had PDJT down to 43%. Ouch!!!
That's why, in general, you shouldn't look at the poll numbers that often. Just because Trump's approval might be dipping a bit in the short term, this tells us nothing about the long term.
In fact, I read an article that said that, during the previous shutdown, Trump's numbers also went down. But they didn't stay down for that long.

WON’T LET PRESIDENT TRUMP STOP THIS
The polls from the last few days show why the MSM have been publishing stories that Trump committed treason. They need to tamp down the public opinion or else they will lose it all.
I should have made it clear that I am talking about the polls showing support for the border wall.
Keep in mind, ratpublicans could have ended this BS at any point in the last 2 years and to this day refuse and insist this ‘probe’ continue. F’em.
ahh, its all imploding on them.
This is a great Morning in America.
The Senate had no way to get to 60 votes, so it was the Dems that prevented passage. ...Stop blaming the Pubbies.
Maybe you should stop giving them a pass. They had 2 fkn years of total control. Funny how the left can get anything passed with worse numbers. Of course the left has plenty of help from your gopeer's.
They did NOT have total control. The DemocRATS could stop any Senate vote defunding Mueller. The Republican did not and do not have a filibuster proof majority.
