New deal or hard exit is what is left.

The EU said they wouldn't negotiate on the terms, period. Hard exit it is.

May allowed the DHS to persecute parents who wanted to try alternative treatments outside the borders. May sat there while Robinson was persecuted. So really, Corbyn could be worse?

It is what should have been done to begin with.

It would all be over and setteled by now.

You and I are in perfect agreement here. The Brit’s should’ve told the EU to go F’ themselves long ago, walked away and been done with it. What was the EU gonna do, invade ‘em?!

Brexit is dead.

100% incorrect. Article 50 was invoked years ago. In the absence of a specific deal by 21 January 2018, The U.K. reverts to WTO status on 29 March 2019, leaves the EU, loses Schengen (gets its borders back and controls its own immigration), and has no obligation to pay the EU a divorce fee (although the EU will take that to the Court of “Just Us”.

Of course, if British Parliament and the EU ignore their own laws, perhaps Brexit may be delayed or denied.

loses Schengen

The UK has never been in Schengen. This is a widespread misconcepntion. The UK never joined the Schengen open-borders area, which only includes certain EU countries plus Norway and Switzerland. The UK has thus always controlled its own borders - hence the notorious 'jungle' camps at Calais etc, where would-be migrants who have made it across Europe can't get through the UK border.

Third-world immigration to the UK is entirely the responsibility of the UK government, not the EU. It would not be affected one way or the other by Brexit. The only immigration which the UK is forced to accept by virtue of its EU membership is of people who are already citizens of other EU countries.

I agree that the pocketbook issues should be stressed more, although the problem is that it’s much easier for the press and talking heads to ignore a long-term issue. Look at how they consistently dance away from the improved economic stats whenever there is a report or Trump mentions it. He probably feels security is a more dramatic issue that will get more coverage, whether good or bad, and I think he subscribes to the theory that any publicity, good or bad, is better than none at all.

There was an interesting article in the WSJ this morning suggesting that the budgeting powers be taken away from the House (a post-WWII measure) and restored to the President, since the fact that the House has bogged down in virtually every recent budget phase and we have either done without one or everything has been shut down on a virtually routine basis in recent years. There’s no individual accountability for House members, and in addition, they almost by definition represent special interests.
