Undocumented Population Up In Texas, Despite Nationwide Decline
Houston Public Media ^ | January 18, 2019 | by Elizabeth Trovall

Texas’ undocumented immigrant population grew 5% over the last seven years, according to information provided by the Center for Migration Studies.

Nationwide, however, the undocumented population decreased by 9%, according to a new report by the center.

Though the state’s undocumented population now includes 75,000 fewer Mexicans, more people are coming from countries like El Salvador, Honduras and India.

“The entire undocumented population living in Texas, including Mexico and every other country, actually increased by 95,000,” said Center for Migration Studies researcher Bob Warren.

The report also showed that nationwide 62% of undocumented immigrants came to the U.S. by overstaying their visa.

Researcher Bob Warren said that’s why solutions to illegal immigration should address both the border and visa overstays.

“More people overstay visas than come across the border illegally and what that means is that more attention should be paid to the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs, which issues immigrant visas,” said Warren.

In 2016, 320,000 people overstayed their visa, according to the report.

And Texas taxpayers are paying millions to educate Latin America’s children, who are crowding hundreds of public school districts and forcing the construction of new schools. They also qualify for all kinds of “Special Needs” services because they have received little or no care in their home countries.

The 1982 SCOTUS ruling that US taxpayers are responsible for educating illegals, as well as providing medical care for them, has been a huge burden. For decades, Texans have been stuck with the bills because of the refusal of the federal government to do its job of protecting the southern border.

There is no such thing as undocumented anybody.

They have driver’s licenses and birth certificates, etc. from whatever country they are citizens of.

Probably leaning more towards undocumented since our borders or so open! I see a lot of undocumented families fly on Southwest Airlines complements of an organization who spread them far and wide all over Texas! They fly them exclusively to two areas San Antonio and Dallas! I still don’t see why our state officials never intervene when they see those families of 4 or 5 being guided by an organization that takes them directly to the gate! I have no idea how they passed security but it is so obvious because they do not speak English and are completely lost and don’t know what to do! When they land at their destimation point there’s another guide waiting to lead them onto a private car to take them to the first financial office for welfare and the rest of the goodies! I have personally flown on some airlines were you see this type of family unit board the airplane with boxes or those plastic mesh bags with string tied around them as luggage, but what is more worrisome than all of that is the breathing air in an airplane is recirculated so if one member of that family is caring some sort of nasty disease most likely some passengers will contract that disease. Our government and health officials have let the American people down by permitting this kind of betrayal continue! And now we’ve got thousands marching again towards our border and there is nothing we can do about it ...nothing! Trumps hands have been tied by the black robes, which gives those people permission to keep coming in droves. The invaders are testing the waters and found that they can easily invade our land..brace yourselves for the incoming apocalypse invasion this coming spring and summer!!

Fraudulently documented foreigner.

They are NOT immigrants because they did not apply to be one.

Here is a thought as a Canadian. I don’t require a visa so theoretically I could come through a port of entry and never leave. Likely, illegal Canadian over staying is not a big issue, which is why we don’t need a visa to start with.

The countries that have visa requirements are problem countries I assume to start with. So it sounds like obtaining visas is far to easy. So how about demanding an entry bond? Visa applicants would be required at border entry to bring a certified payment of say $1000.00?

Recently, I noticed, in my suburban HEB, that just about every other customer appeared to be an illegal.

How can I tell? Well, typically, they tend to wear clothing that doesn’t look like it matches (blue striped top with plaid pants, for example). They don’t speak ANY English, and they often have gold caps that go around their tooth, not over it. There is usually a grandma (abuelita) and grandpa (abuelito) with a mom and several younger children.

And....the best part (/s) is that they use EBT/SNAP $ to pay for their groceries. I can see it on the register.

Their numbers have only grown, in this store, over the past year/year and a half.

I just witnessed a similar scene at HEB yesterday. Something I would consider the norm along the Texas Border is now here in central Texas.
