China Proposes Six-Year Buying Spree

By increasing its annual imports from the United States, Beijing would reduce its trade surplus to zero by 2024. That would require a spending boost of more than $1 trillion.

At a minimum we need to secure enough domestic production in critical areas for national security purposes. We have to get that addressed.

YOU ADDRESS THAT WITH RETALIATORY TARIFFS.

As long as they have high import tariffs and practice mercantilism there is a trade war. Why is it the the USA is the only country with an anathema to using tariffs?

Why does the rest of the world almost universally practice protectionism? And name a country with lower average tariff rates than the USA.

The 30 year globalist experiment in "Free Trade" is an abject failure. Why? because the rest of the of world didn't play along and used the USA like a cheap whore.

“Maybe Xi and Trump really do have a good relationship. And, maybe Xi has decided it’s better to work with Trump”

Perhaps but the Chinese deal in long time frames — much longer than Trump will be on the scene. I am cautiously hopeful Trump can cut a deal with these people. Even in the short term the Chinese want to keep their economy going. They can always go back to BAU later.

We should be slowly cutting ties with China. They are our enemy, and they've done way too much damage already. There's no way they will meet our demands. I'm not confident our next president won't resort back to the status quo, regardless of which party gets elected. You can't trust most of them. This is one of the huge issues that were ignored by politicians for decades, just like immigration, before Trump ran for office. I want to see the 25% tariffs on 250 billion of Chinese imports go into effect, and if China retaliate there should be even more.

I have thought this for awhile. China can stall and even influence behind the scenes to their advantage because we have elections in essence every 2 years.
