But your second sentence almost implies it COULD be real.

Yes, there are so many parts it seems hard to believe it’s all made up. Hoaxes usually are very compact and often involve only one “witness” of the right kind.

It seems too fantastic, but at the same time that’s a whole lot to lie about. Lying about too much runs the risk of being found out.

Almost all of these types of news stories end up being racial trolling (a hoax, in other words). But the initial report gets more coverage than the mea culpa, so mission accomplished for the Leftists.
