Educating Illegal Aliens and Their Children Costs L.A. Schools Hundreds of Millions Per Year
Breitbart ^ | JAN. 18, 2019 2:21 | Joel B. Pollak

Steven A. Camarota, director of research, at the Center for Immigration Studies, told Breitbart News on Friday that “between one-fifth and one-fourth of the students in LAUSD are the children of illegal immigrants — though most of those were born in the U.S.” He said that a smaller percentage of the students (“in the single digits”) are illegal immigrants themselves.

With roughly 700,000 students in the district, at a cost of over $13,000 per student, that means the district could be spending about $1.8 billion annually on educating the children of illegal immigrants. The total annual expenses for the LAUSD in 2017-2018 amounted to $7.52 billion.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) put the cost of educating the children of illegal aliens statewide at over $12 billion in a 2014 study. A significant proportion of those students are served by the LAUSD.

Twenty years before, with a much lower population of illegal aliens, the U.S. General Accounting Office — in a study prepared for then-Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) estimated that California spent $1.6 billion on educating the children of illegal aliens. The cost has increased almost tenfold as the “undocumented” population has grown.

From USA Today best and worse schools..

35. California

High school graduation rate: 83.0% (21st lowest)

Public school spending: $9,417 per pupil (8th lowest)

8th grade NAEP proficiency: 27.1% (math) 28.4% (reading)

Adults with at least a bachelor’s degree: 32.9% (14th highest)

Adults 25-64 with incomes at or above national median: 51.7% (21st highest)

California has the largest network of public schools in the country — and also one of the worst-performing. Only 29.2% of fourth graders in the state are proficient in math, and only 27.8% are proficient in reading — each the third lowest share of any state. While low, the fourth-grade reading proficiency rate is much improved from only a few years ago. Between 2003 and 2015, fourth-grade reading proficiency increased by 7.0 percentage points, far outpacing the 4.9 percentage point improvement across the U.S. as a whole.

Children who are raised speaking English as a second language often face additional academic challenges at American public schools. Only 64.1% of California students have parents who are fluent English speakers, the smallest share of any state in the country.

Wrong. Try doubling or more than what it costs to educate US students. Illegals have to have ESL teachers, extra aides, free meals and then there’s the discipline problem.

This morning on Cavuto, a guest stated that we are getting around 51,000 illegals crossing the border per MONTH.

These people coming across are not college grads. A lot, if not most, are probably illiterate. They will be a drag on our economy forever.

As for them doing farm work, these jobs are being mechanized. There are machines that are picking crops now -- these people are not needed for that work.

I wasn't so sure about him calling an emergency so that he could just build the wall without the obstructionist Congress stopping him; but, now -- go for it POTUS.

It’s maybe even worse than that. If they have to have an IEP (individual educational program), that is they are legally “handicapped”, then they get first priority on a school’s resources. If IEP kids need it, they get it and if non-IEP kids have to go without, so be it.

I heard a former FBI man stating the reason the Democrats want a technology wall is because, to “build” it, they will offer more contracts and jobs to their mega donors in Silicon Valley as a quid pro quo so to speak.

I think that is brilliant conclusion. When I heard it, I just went ahhh. AOC and her ilk should be against this because it will be the rich just getting richer.

Let’s assume a magic wand could be waved and, Presto!!, all the illegal criminals are no longer criminals. How much would this reduce the $1.8 Billion?

Let’s assume the magic wand could be waved again and, Presto!!, all these folks are US citizens. Same question?

What does an illegal criminal being an illegal criminal have to do with the cost of educating children of illegals?

One has nothing to do with the other in this context; cost of LAISD educated children of illegals.

The only way things will change, sorry to say, is when everything will bottom out and hit the skids. Possible brought about by a natural or man made disaster, maybe then people scratch their heads and start thinking. So far human nature has not changed as with most in order to change it will take some form of pain, either physically or severely hurt the pocket book or both. And by looking around not just here in the US and taking in to account what is taking place around the world. From natives getting restless being lead by ignorant and more often than not outright dumb politicians from floods to quakes as well as increasingly strange weather patterns, not to mention the increase in speed of the magnetic poles, one get the feeling that something is in the making and these changes may be closer than we think.

The discipline problem is not a problem with the illegals. I have first hand experience with behavior problems in classrooms and I can tell you that immigrants are better behaved than the native children, except when they are teenagers and then they can be problematic but still the numbers are dwarfed by the natives. Discipline is not the problem.
