When a BuzzFeed reporter first sought comment on the news outlet’s explosive report that President Trump had directed his lawyer to lie to Congress, the spokesman for special counsel Robert S. Mueller III treated the request as he would almost any other story.

Someone in the SC leaked Mueller’s silver bullet to Buzzfeed. No way they made it up on their own.
Muellers team and Trump lawyers tried to tell Buzzfeed to do more research, but NO, they couldn’t wait for another opportunity to try and get Trump.
I think mark levin calling for a leak prosecution against muellers team caused it.

I’ve been to Buttfeed’s offices here in Hollywood. They’re mostly a bunch of Trump-haters. If they could come up with garbage to hurt Trump, they’ll lie and invent sh*t. Trust me.
Cohen has not addressed BuzzFeed’s reporting, and BuzzFeed has made clear he was not a source for its story. Lanny J. Davis, a legal and communications adviser to Cohen, said before the special counsel statement was issued, “Out of respect for Mr. Mueller’s and the Office of Special Counsel’s investigation, Mr. Cohen declined to respond to the questions asked by the reporters and so do I.” He declined to address it after the special counsel’s office released the statement.
The WP is going with the premise the story is true. They're just trying to work out why Mueller would deny it.
I know they’re fakenews. It just didn’t sound like something they would make up out of whole cloth. Plus, it’s consistent with the special counsel leaking to get bad news about the deepstate off the front pages. Which is exactly what happened.

The most likely explanation is Cohen is set to change his testimony to the House once again and claim the bad orange man made him do it. The BuzzardFeed story is designed to give his version corroboration regardless of the facts.
He’ll probably nuance it regarding whether Trump instructed him to lie. Even a crumb of corroboration to the story is all the media and their Democrat puppets need to get the impeachment show started.

Yes. I doubt mueller would leak a false story but you never know. He is running a coup after all
On the plus side, I think Rosenstein caught them by surprise by having the Mueller gang refute the story. Had the story laid out there as is leading up to Cohen’s “testimony”, Pelosi would have had the impeachment hearing scheduled the same day.
Maybe Trump got wind that Cohen was going to change his story and they leaked it.
My guess is that this was put out there to get the Bruce Ohr story out of the news.
