At least one Senate Democrat West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, a moderate Democrat seems to be taking President Trump's offer on immigration reform as a sign an end to the partial government shutdown may be near.....said Saturday he's looking forward to working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

I'm hopeful the President's statement tonight will allow us to immediately reopen gov, put WVians back to work & start negotiating long-term immigration reform. I look forward to working w/my GOP & Dem colleagues to make this happen so that we can end this shameful shutdown.

A RIF before reopening agencies would be great.

It’ll be at least two to three weeks, but I suspect the RIF idea will take on some reality, and some list of 3,000 names/positions will be created. I’m not sure if Nancy will react or not. We might go onto a second RIF where 10,000 names/positions are deleted.

Right now with his latest offer, Trump should have some Latino GOP -talker to go out and make the pitch to citizen-Latinos and Illegal-Latinos. Nancy isn’t helping their cause.

Just like with his Kavanaugh vote, Joe is fine with casting his vote for this, as long as he isn’t the deciding vote. In other words, he will vote for it if Schumer gives him permission.

They all know securing the country is in the constitution not employing people..... They’re derelict in their sworn duties to protect this nation.

They wouldn’t get elected without selling their souls first. It’s called blackmail.

Do it by voice vote, dump it to the House to finish it up. Too bad it didn’t include e-Verify as that’d help remove some of the lure. Guess if Dems won’t pass, then add this next?

I think I read somewhere Manchin wants to become Gov. I don’t understand why WV still votes for him.

We need to relook all of the “non-essential” Federal jobs before we “reopen” anything.

Depends which organization is hit. I think there is already a list as well as a new designation for what is essential and what is not.

Nope. Unless you’re Joe Lieberman, they will always tow the party line. That’s called POLITICS. It’s all about getting what your party wants.

Trumps ace in the hole is RIFn furloughed Federal Employees. When he announces the first allotment of 150,000, Congress will ge on the stick.

He wasn't too bad a Governor. A damned sight better than ALL the Governors (R&D) that I'd lived under in NY. He even removed the 6% sales tax on groceries.
As to why WV still votes for him, you must remember that WV is still predominently Democrat. GOP opponents have either been weak or lacked any real support from the RNC....something someone from AZ should be well acquainted with.
