Actually, I saw a notice at my local market that the EBT crowd is getting their payments early due to the government shutdown. I kid you not.

The EBT cards won't go dead in February or even March. February's payments apparently have been ladled out early, and March will see $3 billion in contingency funds used to cover part of the normal payout of $4.7 billion. April, on the other hand, promises to be exciting if the partial government shutdown stretches on through that month. I'd suggest avoiding the inner cities altogether if you can. Eyes in the back of your head, carry concealed everywhere, etc.
