I think Phillips was born in February 1954 (source), which would make him 18 in 1972. While ground combat forces were withdrawn by the end of March 1973, some of the last U.S. military in Saigon when it fell two years later were 18. He could have been one of the last Marines to serve a six month tour of duty in Vietnam.

According to Google, the last Marine Corps unit in Vietnam was pulled out in June 1971.

If he was one of the last Marines to serve in VN, that would be prominently featured in his bio. It’s not.
