It would seem reasonable he initially notify family and close friends, then his employer (so they could report the news) next, and then call Stephen Colbert.

I think he is pretty independent and calls politians out when they are b.s.ing him. He was one of the few that took the Benghazi story forward.

I think his weakness is doing election night coverage. While he is usually right, he has an awful way of delivering the news during those live events. I also don't think he is very good at this live presidential debates. But, all in all, he delivers a pretty good show nightly in a fairly independent way.
