A federal officer arrested a “human smuggler” following a traffic stop in Summit County over the weekend.
The task force officer with Homeland Security pulled over the vehicle after he spotted the driver speeding and driving erratically on eastbound I-80 after 9 p.m.
A probable cause statement filed in a Summit County court indicates that during Saturday night’s stop, the officer noticed eight male passengers who “looked like they were attempting to hide.”
When asked for identification, the driver provided the officer with a fake ID.
But, after checking a federal criminal database, it revealed the driver as 33-year-old Rolando Gomez-Gomez, an undocumented immigrant with a criminal history of “alien smuggling.”
Gomez-Gomez would go on to admit that he did not know the men and that he has transported undocumented immigrants throughout the United States in the past.
The affidavit also shows that the eight occupants admitted that they paid him to transport them to other states, including New Jersey and Nebraska.
Gomez-Gomez was booked into the Summit County Jail on felony charges of human smuggling and misdemeanor obstruction of justice for providing the officer false information.
Do you know what happened to the illegals he was hauling? Did they just let them go there in UT?
The passengers some how got in the vehicle when he stopped at a fast food restaurant. He didn't notice them, it was after dark.
Love the name, Gomez-Gomez. To bad ma didn't name him Gomez; Gomez Gomez-Gomez. Like the old German whose name was Hans Hans who said he was born in Baden-Baden in 1919.
OK, and here I thought Evan McMullin was getting into a new line of work after losing his 2016 Presidential bid.
