Twitter has spent years assuring the public that it will crack down on trolling, harassment, and violent threats. It’s also pledged to tackle “misinformation” and “unhealthy conversation,” using these loaded terms as excuses to ban a wide range of anti-progressive dissidents from the platform.
But when innocent conservative high school kids are flooded with violent threats, targeted harassment and doxing on the basis of media-promoted misinformation, Jack Dorsey and his staff seem to do nothing — it even briefly promoted the smears.
Over the past 48 hours, an angry mob of Twitter users — many of them with blue checkmarks next to their name, signaling endorsement of their messages by the company — have flooded the platform with disgusting abuse, violent threats, and calls to harass innocent students of the Covington Catholic High School in Kentucky.

Twitter is run by hypocrites.
“Twitter is run by hypocrites.” ...and used by idiots who enable their manipulation of public discourse.

You know, Brietbart can be garbage too. I’m no fan of Twitter, but this is not accurate:
“signaling endorsement of their messages by the company”
The blue check marks do NOT indicate that Twitter or anyone else endorses what the person tweets. It simply means that Twitter has taken extra steps to verify that the account is being run by who it claims to be. I know because I tried to get verified. It’s not easy.
Get your facts straight.
When the revolution comes then the revolutionaries will remember the treason of Twitter.
I hope that one of the lawsuits to be file is against Twitter for knowing being an accomplice in this crime. Twitter won’t even pull those types of comments because they all come from liberals.
It hypocrites; domestic enemies of America.
They ought to bring a lawsuit against Twitter. That would be a major pay day. Teach them a lesson about free speech they won’t soon forget.

So if the threats are genuine they are within Twitter’s guidelines. Don’t want any fake threats.

Twitter has a history of banning free speech supposedly because of threats of violence.
You get upset about a tiny part of the article about what twitter supposedly mean by a blue check mark.
You ignore the hypocrisy on twitter and the threats.

I’m not disputing the threats at all. And I read the article earlier today before it was even posted here.
The point is: THE ARTICLE HAS FALSE INFORMATION.
We make mistakes too. We should have our facts straight. Get off your horse. Admit the error.
I do not believe that twitter dispassionately allows users to have blue checks.
They place the blue checks on those they ideologically prefer.
I think Breitbart is largely correct.
I hope and pray that this is the beginning of the end for the #fakenews media.

What I would say, however, is that they remove it if you are a controversial rightist, but not if you are a controversial leftist.
Milo (not a true conservative, but very controversial) lost his, did he not? There was not a sudden doubt that Milo was who he said he was. Milo was punished.
Will any of these lose their blue checks? I suspect not.

Great. I’m glad you agree with the article and agree that the threats are something to be concerned about.
The dispute you have is on the tiny point of what Twitter supposedly means when they give or remove blue checks. Twitter has not been at all consistent about this. No one knows what they are actually doing as opposed to what they say they are doing.
If this really concerns you, you can look into how Twitter is biased and hypocritical in the way they assign and take away blue checks. You can also look at who lost their blue checks and why.
You don’t know what you’re talking about.
