House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Blocks President Trump Entry into Capitol Building – Confirms State of Union Speech Cancellation…
It looks like Speaker of The House Nancy Pelosi has no intention of allowing the House chamber to be used for a State of the Union address.
Speaker Pelosi has informed the House Sergeant at Arms that no executive branch official will be permitted entry into the Capitol building.
Earlier Fox News reported Pelosi cancelled a walkthrough last week, and a second request for reconsideration from the White House is expected to meet the same fate. The House Speaker controls who is, and who is not, permitted entry to the House floor. Until Speaker Pelosi calls for a vote to support a joint session of congress, the President cannot enter the chamber.
Deputy White House Press Secretary Hogan Gidley discusses the status of the current shutdown negotiations and the likelihood a SOU address will have to take place outside Washington DC.

In addition the the House Chamber, I think McConnell only has control of the Senate Chamber and wing. The Speaker has overall control of the remainder of the Capitol building. Yes, she could bar access to the rotunda and any senate guests would have to come in thru he “back door”.

It’s not that I don’t understand what needs to be done, but we have to operate within the bounds of the law...at least some do and our side abides by the law for better or worse. The other side is allowed to do what they want because the media gives them cover. It is just the way it is.

What’s your source for that? I’ve never heard any such thing.
Anyway, what people are forgetting, is that an action taken to physically block entry of a POTUS from the House chamber, would be well outside the scope of existing policies and protocols. Since it would constitute a dispute between two coequal branches of government, the courts would have to rule on the matter.
I suspect that where classified information or potential conflicts of interest might exist, or when insufficient prior notice has been given for the visit, there might be cases where access could be blocked. For example, it may be possible to block entry of the POTUS from certain offices in the FBI or CIA, especially if insufficient prior notice was given.
But it is very difficult to imagine the courts ruling in favor of an action blocking the POTUS from the House chamber for a SOTU address when - 1) ample prior notice was given, 2) there is such strong precedent for the visit, 3) the efforts by the Democrats to block entry are so blatantly petty and partisan.
My guess is that if POTUS wants to go, he will go.
Sure, and invite congress to attend. So they don't have to mix with the hoi polloi they can have reserved nosebleed seating.

Start a new tradition.
Maybe have several state of the union speeches to really make them go nuts.
Start at the statue of Liberty, speech 1, then fly to Illinois, Lincolns Grave. Then Mt Rushmore. Then stop in San Francisco, get out in front of Nancys House, and remark how beautiful her wall is, and how it keeps her safe and warm.
By the end of the day, they’ll be screaming and crying like 2 year old brats.

Please do the State of the Union Address from our Southern Border. Use it to beat the Democrats over the head with the fact that they supported some $50+ Billion to build a border barrier under the George Walker Bush Presidency, passed the bill to do it, then never allocated the funds.
Then tell the Democrats hell will freeze over before he allows the 25% of the unnecessary government workers that have been furloughed to return to work or get paid.
Finally, tell the Democrats they have 48 hours to accept your generous offer or 25% of the FedGov behemoth loses their jobs and paychecks permanently.

San Fran Nan is the representative of 1 congressional district from 1 state, CA. Andy Barr represents 1 congressional district from 1 state, KY. My state. There are 433 more of these congress critters in the House. Yet, San Fran Nan, 1 of 435, seems to have complete control of all things House. Somehow I don’t think the House was meant to be run in this dictatorial fashion.
