Pencil in the Greatest Player of all time. He needs a few more years but Mike Trout has the best start by anyone Ever!

Huh? You dare put Curt Schilling in the same company as Bonds and Clemens? You are not a fan and don’t even know where the “HOF” is located. Schilling is real, Bonds and Clemens are fake.
Go play with your pussy.

He had bad wrists and knees. Also his eyes didn’t have the same focal point which he had to train himself to see the ball coming from the pitcher’s hand.

Right.

I think Tony Gwynn was the most phenomenal hitter of the modern era. His .338 lifetime average ranks #19 on the all-time list, and there isn't anyone within 10 points of that who has retired in the last 50 years.

The great website baseballreference.com has career leader pages for various statistical categories. They show photos of the Top 20 players at the top, then list the top 1,000 beneath that. For the career batting average page, most of the Top 20 players are so ancient that Gwynn is the only player who has a color photo:

...then Pete Rose deserves to be in the HoF

NEVER! You cannot bet on baseball, it's the easiest game to fix and if there was any questions about the integrity of the game, it would kill the league. You have to remember just how close the Black Sox scandal came to destroying the League.

Your questioning Joe DiMaggio’s worth paints you as a fool who lurks in the shadows, knowing not what he writes about.
Get Lost.

It is what it is. But unlike MOST sports fans, Im NO bandwagoner. I dont care who won the World Series for the past 20 years, just like you and I’m always loyal. Same with Trump and many Never Trumper Retards on FR, just stick with him and we’ll be fine..

Congratulations to all these inductees. It is the year of the designated hitters, Harold Baines and Edgar Martinez.

Frankly if there is room for these guys, neither of whom won a WS, then it’s time to make room for Dale Murphy and Al Oliver. Oliver IMO was every bit as good a hitter as Baines and was a good fielder and a key part of the Pirates 1971 WS champs! Murph was a 2-time MVP and a great all-around player. Love sharing baseball thoughts!

He's definitely a great player. One of the things we may find is that the game changes so much that it's harder for modern players to reach the levels of old-timers in many categories.

Look at how the game has changed into one where home runs and strikeouts have come to dominate the game. It's really remarkable, and it will have major implications for a lot of career statistics among these modern hitters.

Of all the players who retired since the mid-1970s, I'd have to say Harold Baines is the single worst player to be inducted in the Hall of Fame -- by a pretty wide margin. Tim Raines might be #2, but it's not even close.

Solid player, but I can't believe anyone ever considered that guy a Hall of Famer.

FACTS101:

MLB does NOT own HoF - each are separate entities.

Pete NEVER bet on baseball as a player.

Pete NEVER took power enhancing steroids ala Bonds.

Pete’s stats remain as one of the best of all time, will probably never be broken.

Pete deserves to be in HoF...but NOT in MLB.

I’ll take Tony Gwynn against any other player, in his era.
WOW.

That list is interesting. I knew Babe Ruth was a good hitter but did not know he was number 10 all time. Also noticed a whole lot were left handed. A lefty has two steps closer to first plus their swing has them already pulling that direction.

Murphy seemed like a sure Hall of Famer at some point, but he seemed to fade very quickly. He was a dominant player for sure, but not for long enough to be in the HOF. He's sort of like Don Mattingly that way.

Murphy has two big things going against him:

1. He didn't reach any major milestones that you'd typically like to see from a dominant hitter (3,000 hits, 500 home runs, 1,500 RBIs).

2. He was mainly an outfielder, and his numbers look even more ordinary when you realize that outfielders make up a disproportionate number of the top offensive players in baseball history.

Beside being closer to first...They see three right hand pitchers for every left hander. A huge advantage? Ask a switch hitter why he bats on the opposite side of the plate?/

Dittos to that Bat but I do think the poster is just goofing us all. Nobody but nobody can be so idiotic as to question Joe DiMaggio’s HOF credentials.
