A quickly escalating measles outbreak around Portland, Oregon, has led health officials in nearby Clark County, Washington, to declare a public health emergency as they warn that people infected with the highly contagious virus since the beginning of the year have visited schools and churches, a dentist's office, an Amazon locker pickup station, a Costco, and an Ikea.

I think they should send some the infected down to tour the homeless encampments in Portlandia and spread the wealth...

“What’s next? Polio returns?”

I think in some places in the lower 48 it has surfaced again.

Well, at least they don’t have autism or death like people who vaccinate. As everything must be labeled, even satirical cartons, I should probably label this as sarcasm.

Unfortunately, this site has its own contingent of anti-vaccine loons. They’re completely impervious to facts or reason of any kind. Arguing with them is like arguing with a fake moon landing conspiracy theorist, a new-age cult member, and a flat-Earther rolled into one.

When anti-vaxxers and pro-foreign invading forces converge the children suffer.

Just a warning to everyone in there area who has gotten vaxxed: you might not be as protected as you think you are.

I had my shot in the late 60s (I’m 54) and for a recent job had to have my titre tested before employment. It came back ZERO - I had no leftover immunity to measles, mumps, or rubella.
I had to get the vax before I could start work.

I read up on it and apparently some of the shots issued in the 60s-70s had issues and didnt last.

If you were vaxxed in that period you might want to ask your doc about this.

Well, at least they don’t have autism or death like people who vaccinate.

And don't forget, the made-up data of one British quack who has since lost his medical license (and the views of such giants of medical research like Jenny McCarthy) trumps many decades worth of valid research data, and the fact that we no longer have kids in iron lungs from polio. \s

All those illegal immigrants are getting the measles. Better than getting murdered in downtown Pee-Town.

Living here in Clark county, in Vancouver, it's easy to see why there are so many anti-vaxxers. The IQ of the average mother is about 70. They are easy to sway for whatever pop nostrum is current.

I find it mildly amusing, since as a Marine, I've been inoculated for everything, including the democrat's party.

I recall the Navy using those pressure guns. If you flinched, it would cut, instead of inject, and since pushups were required after shot call, the image of blood, dripping off knuckles, is still seared, seared, into my brain...

Plenty of conservative anti-vaxxers too.

Patrick Henry would have been an anti-vaxxer.

Measles parties are probably happening now.

So you get measles or chicken pox.

Are there sometimes complications from measles and chicken pox? Yes.

Are there sometimes complications from vaccines? Yes.

It’s America. Choose.

Quit whining that everyone didn’t make the same choice you did.

In the meantime, we’re Fighting for the Republic, against a full array of enemies.

That is a disgrace. Curing polio used to be a crowning American achievement. Now a bunch of tinfoil types are letting it come back? As long as they hurt only themselves, that’s fine. But their children deserve better - it’s child abuse.

My attitude towards anti-vaxxers is the same as my attitude towards "Christian Scientists" who pray rather than seeking medical care for treatable illnesses: if you want to make yourselves martyrs for your loony beliefs, have at it, just don't make others, including children who are too young to decide, martyrs to those beliefs.

And while we're at it, anti vaxxers should note that if they're free not to vaccinate, then schools and universities should be equally free not to admit them, and companies have every right not to hire them.
