“Because this is our hemisphere and we’ve been down this path before in this region. The interim leader of Venezuela will in all likelihood be assassinated in the next few days. “
Whatever oil the commies manage to pump out of the ground will be available to the world market.
That is the ONLY real commercial interest we have there.
Our national security interests are minimal within the context of a MUCH greater threat to Brazil and Columbia. And they can handle their own interests vs Maduro.
Only IF, and it’s a big IF, Maduro attacks the US mission there would we have any reason to consider any military action, and that action should prudently be limited to evacuation and retaliation.
Oh, they do have exceedingly hot women there. But that’s not a good reason to send the USMC. They have access elsewhere.
More likely is air strikes to eliminate any organized opposition to the anti-Maduro forces. Doesn’t take many local units to establish control if Maduro’s get systematically destroyed.
“they do have exceedingly hot women there. But thats not a good reason to send the USMC.”
I don’t understand. What better reason could there be?
A hostile gov in SA is a very differen threat than one in the ME. Oil is not as important as hostilty.
The hot women will be a just reward for the Marines though...
Too funny.
I agree. We don't have strategic interests there other than the fact that instability south of the border is bad and does have some implications RE:migrants and whatnot, which wouldn't be an issue if mexico would stop letting them through.
