I think the likelier candidate for the first gay president is James Buchanan. I’ve never heard such speculation regarding Fillmore or Pierce. Can you give a source for that?

Then so was every circuit riding lawyer & preacher back then. The taverns & guest houses back in those days stuffed people into rooms up to the gunnels of the windows. More lawyers & preachers you can stuff into a room with one bed the more money you made!
